Member Posts: 1991 | In the FLW Walleye League, does the boater supply the rods and baits? If so do the Co's ever bring any of their stuff?

Member Posts: 2567 Location: Manitowoc, WI | Just like the regular FLW Tour, the co-anglers are not allowed to bring any tackle. The only things I ask my co's to bring are proper clothing, license, their food/drink and a great attitude.

Member Posts: 1991 | So as a "boater" what do you carry for set ups, rigging - jigging - casting - trolling? Do you guys usaully find a "pattern" then stock your boat for that day? That is alot of gear to carry

Member Posts: 3899 | Co-anglers are not allowed to bring anything in the boat as far as equipment, tackle, or bait goes. Bring proper clothes for the weather, food and drink, and a great attitude, as mentioned. If the weather holds, bring sunscreen! Botares will bring the tackle they deem necessary based on prefishing. They probably bring plan B&C tackle, too. I know for Petenwell this weekend, I will bring jigging, rigging, and trolling setups. I'll have minnows, crawlers and leeches for bait. I'll want to be able to make a quick decision and change tatics if my No.1 stuff isn't working. Edited by Shep 4/16/2007 8:29 AM

Member Posts: 201 Location: Colgate, WI | Shep hit it right on the head! The most important thing a co could bring is a positive attitude! Your boater is going to do everything possible to get on fish and put them in the boat. Sometimes the day doesn't go as planned and he loses the fish he was on, the last thing he needs is to have a co start showing a negative attitude. That really puts the boater in a downward spin quickly! Go at it like you are there to have fun, learn a new technique and meet a new friend, hopefully for life. And Shep was right about what to bring for Pet., what did you say your #1 thing was again.hehe Good luck to all and have FUN!!

Member Posts: 794 Location: Elgin, Illinois | First, there is an excellent article by Colleen Lampman, right here at WF that is a must read for anyone new to fishing the FLW as a Co (or any draw tourney for that matter). Thanks again Colleen for your excellent article. http://walleye.outdoorsfirst.com/articles/04.16.2007/804/The.role.o... This is my fourth year of fishing the League (second year fishing the tour events) as a Co... I fished as a boater and partner for many years before this... My health got in the way of me fishing as a Boater (maybe that will change down the road), but for now, I look at my role as "Mate" and "Cheerleader"... The Boater is definitely the Captain and I am there to follow the plan and make it a success if I can contribute. I let the Boater set the stage for everything and always ask what he would like me to do... Next, I look at the day as a 100% success if I am out on the water trying to catch a walleye... Catching some or finishing in the money is frosting on the cake, and not the most important part of the day at the end... But, for this opportunity I would be out of the tournament game... So, I always am grateful for the fun I have... The bonus has been that I believe I have made friends with every boater I have fished with... And, I hope I continue to do so... I know I have learned something each and every time I go out... And, I am really looking forward to next Saturday... Edited by hgmeyer 4/16/2007 8:32 PM
