Member Posts: 538 | It is a popular and well fished lake. In the pwt last year, some folks were trolling but most of the fish were caught rigging 4-6 inch chubs and minnows. My partners and I caught fish shallow as well as deep. Fun lake to fish and lots of fish to be caught in many different structure. It is a nice perch and musky lake as well. You should have a great time there. Take care, Jim O

Member Posts: 84 | Check out some of last years Walleye Insider Issues. There was a PWT event at Cass and they point out some good fishing strategies as well as some general locations to try once you get there. Cass/Pike Bay is an awesome fishery. SB

Member Posts: 23 Location: Arlington, WI | I love Cass Lake and after you fish it, you will too. Everyone is pointing out what the pros did during their tour stop in September. The strategies that you use in June are not the same as September. For your time frame, June, you need to work much shallower, 10'-15'. Jigs and crawlers, leeches, or minnows can all be good. Lindy/bait rigs are also very productive on Cass. You can also troll Shad Raps in the shallow areas as well. As far as what I like to use, for trolling I like to use the #4 or #5 Shad Rap RS in the blue, chrome, orange or a regular #5 Shad Rap in Crawdad. The #5 Flicker Shads may also do well for you. For rigging you can use a Lindy/live bait rig with a 4'-5' floro snell, ball bearing swivle and a 1/4 to 3/8 oz Lindy No-Snagg sinker. I also really like to pull a large Firetiger Northland Gumball/Phelps float on a 6' floro snell, ball bearing swivle, and a No-Snagg sinker with a 1/2 a crawler. It spins when pulled from .3 to .5 mph. Also pack along plenty of metallic gold beads, floats, and small Gold #2 Colorado spinners. This is incase of a Mayfly hatch that can happen at any time that time of year on any northern lake. For jigging, I like to use 1/16 oz Weed Weazle jigs in Firetiger, Chart/Orange, or Craw Red. For bait I like to use 1/2 a crawler or leeches but I have had friends who have done well in June with minnows. I have one good friend who loves to bobber fish and has done well on Cass ontop many of the humps and points with leeches and minnows. Where to fish, I like to hit the flats that are next to steep breaks. There are a million of those on Cass so just go hit the ones that are wind blown. I like to hit the tops of the Wishbone bars, the west side of O'Neil's point, Allen's Bay on the egg, the Boomerang, and the top of the cut between the the southeast shore and the west Potato Island. I have also done pretty well in June trolling on the large flats around Strawberry Bar and the Doughnut southwest of Cedar Island. I have also had hot and cold reults ontop of the Turtle River Bar. I try to stay on the windblown edges. Don't get intimidated by all of the structure on the map. Later, Brian

Member Posts: 1195 Location: Orland Park, IL | Wow, nice work Brian. I loved the wishbone bars. Very nice. Great place to cast muskies using glide like a manta. Also, make a point to do some night trolling off Oneils point. Just get in line with the rest of the boats and pull some perch #5 shad raps flatlined. Keep things quiet in the boat. If that doesnt go, pitch that shore next to oneils (facing onthe right) with some cranks. On the other side of oneils is a pretty good perchin place. Great for the kids and the action. If you boat can make it, hit buck bay for some casting for pike and musky. Bucktails are great. The entrance to buck bay is kinda shallow, maybe 2 feet, but opens up pretty good. The G3 made it in ok. Bullett or egg sinker with a 7 foot lead of fluoro and snelled hook worked really well on specific depths. So, find fish at a certain depth and work em by backtrolling.
