I've never fished for walleyes, very much. What is a general size of line to use. I've thinking maybe 30 pound braid. Is that in the ball park? Thanks Doug

For planer board trolling 10 or 12# Trilene XT or Big Game works well for me.

Location: LaCrosse, WI | For trolling applications I like 10lb XT as it matches what's in the precision trolling book and it's tough as nails.
For jigging on the Mississippi I like thinner line like Berkly Vanish Transition 6lb. I am starting to like the new 10/4 fireline crystal this year as well. As far as braids go, you rarely need a really high pound braid like 30lb. 10/4 fireline or 10/2 powerpro are plenty tough. Try to break 10/2 powerpro once, it's almost impossible.

LINE SIZE??? ONE WINTER I GOT LUCKY ENOUGH TO CATCH ONE 11.4# WALLEYE AND TWO 10 PDERS USEING #8 TRYLENE GREEN XL. BEEN USEING IT FOR YEARS. SUMMERTIME I USE #8 XL GREEN FOR JIGGING, FIRE LINE 6/2 WITH BERKLY #8 VANISH FOR A LEADER ON MY SLIP BOBBER RIGS. (FLAME GREEN). FIRELINE CRYSTAL FOR TROLLING CRANK BAITS. IT'S ALL A PREFERENCE, EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN IDEAS OF WHAT WORKS BEST FOR THEM. WHEN I'M NOT MAKIN' MOONSHINE I FISH.

Doug - For jigging, 6lb. or 8lb. Fireline (Flame Green) will work well. C-man
