I'm interested in this motor also.All the feedback I have heard is positive.I had the chance to see one cold-start(50 remote).Super quick starting,no visable smoke and smooth.I believe the tiller set-up is similar to the one used on the two-stroke models.Have not seen a tiller model yet.

Only time will tell if there are any problems.BMC did state that E-Tec can be used all the way down to 2HP models.Plus they can be started without a battery,if needed.So far,you NEED a good battery to start 4-stroke EFI/2-stroke DFI models.

If you are looking for a new outboard, you can't go wrong with the E-Tec. The bottom line is they just plain work. Outperform and get better gas mileage than the 4-strokes, and all the other hype I'm sure you read, but they really are great. I have driven the 50, 90, and 225 E-Tecs. The v-6s are amazing. Super quiet and smooth, but with a midrange punch second to none.

My 1991 Johnson 115 burnt up and we bought a 90 horse E-Tec to replace it on my Lund 1700 Pro-V. I gained fishing space, E-Tec is half the size, I gained about 5 MPH after dropping horsepower, and it trolls under 2 MPH at 700RPM. So far so good.

I'm familiar with the smaller horsepower E-tecs, but I'm curious to know more about these V6 E-tecs.


I read an article that you can get a High Output E-tec in the V6 models, Can anybody verify that you can get a 250 E-TEC HO

A 250 E tec H.O. will not be available until late 05 or more likely 2006. Sorry!

I had a problem with my no oil light and buzzer going off the first week out, they told me the oil flow rate for the recommended xd100 oil was not high enough, and that they are trying to get it right still. The remedy is I have to let the motor warm up untill the buzzer goes off then shut off for 5 minutes. When I restart the motor the oil is warmed under the cowling and the computer resets itself and no problems after. This only happens when it is below about 45 degrees.
