Just returned from the annual tour of MN visiting relatives and fishing, lots of fishing.

The week started with a family reunion in Kelliher and some walleye fishing on Upper Red Lake. The lake was pretty rough but the boys were catching them at a good pace off the dock in the Tamarac River in Waskish (picture). Lots of of fish, nothing under 17".

From there we ventured down to our family cabin near Crosslake for a few days. My 5 year-old caught his first northern (pic ). The panfish action was great (pics). The boys were trash talking so we had a little competition (pic ) -- they each came in with a good basket so we called it a draw.

Finally, we visited the in-laws in St. Cloud and did some Rainbow fishing. Lots of fun but almost too easy.

Another great week. I can handle visiting family as long as the boys and Iget out to fish as much as we did.

Looks like an awesome trip. Some very nice fish there and glad to see the kids enjoying the outdoors!

Looks like you spent your vacation cleaning fish. Great pics. Looks like they had a blast. Probably the only kids in the world that will look forward to family reunions.

Priceless days! Seems like yesterday I was doing the same things. Now I'm moving one out of college to his new career. Goes fast, cherish the times.

Sounds like a great vacation. Now that it is over, how about some hair cuts being planned?

Thanks for the kind words everyone. It was a great vacation. I did clean a lot of fish but I'd rather be cleaning fish than telling the kids to put their gameboys down and get outside. My oldest is pretty independent now, baiting, casting, unhooking his own fish; he even helps skin the fish while I'm cleaning them. If he wasn't swimming, he was at the end of the dock fishing. Next summer we'll have him fileting along side Dad. We had a few big fish frys and brough a few home.

It's summer, they can grow their hair out if they want until school starts. :

Good stuff Bob! I had similar results on LVD with my oldest (4 year old) son. He was casting and catching panfish quicker than I could get rebaited and my own line in the water. I think he caught the biggest perch and gills that week. Here's a pic of him with one of his bigger perch.

I dont know about most but let me tell ya I would not trade the kids being young for the world, HOWEVER, I so enjoy them now at 14 and up. They help with fish cleaning, getting ready, cleaning up, its like heaven.
