Member Posts: 160 Location: Menasha, WI | Here is a chart for you all to look at and see the results of the Sauger rehab project on Lake Winnebago. please try and release all Saugers if at all possible so that we can get back to the numbers we used to have in the early 80's. Member Posts: 744 | I think Menudo broke up in '86 causing a worldwide disruption in the space/time continuum...or Bill Buckner's World Series error threw the rotation of the earth off it's axis enough to affect the sauger population....or That was the first year Shep started fishing the system.

Member Posts: 3899 | Thumper hit the nail on the head. I ice fished hard that year. All we caught were sand pike. They was real good, too. I know sometime in the recent past, they were doing a lot of stocking. It was my understanding that the stocking had stopped because there was no natural recruitment taking place. I suspect that the adult assessment will take a down turn in the next several years. Maybe I'm all wrong on this. But that is what I understood Kendall to say a few years ago.

Maybe a nice massage, or even cooking them a meal once in a while? Maybe you should try to make them feel a little more appreciated, and then maybe you'd see some better results.

Member Posts: 300 Location: Lincoln Park, Mi | Suddenly a taste for fish sticks in 86? LOL I was wondering if there might have been some event like a big fish kill because of disease or whatever. Seems like a big drop just because of harvest. Edited by terroreyes 2/8/2010 7:40 PM

Member Posts: 1656 | BIG Picture. Trawling data is young of the spear, still "good" spawning in '86 '87 Late 80's were very poor walleye spawning years (drought). Createing an imbalance between walleye and sauger. sauger overharvested through the 90's and placed on the "do not harvest list". '96 first good walleye class in about a decade, walleye fishery restored in the early 2000's.......population cycles and natural balance. I say eat the saugers they taste good too!
