Member Posts: 1406 | I have 9 adware threats on my puter not viruses but threats that keep giving me popups etc, Norton won't get rid of them and neither will Spybot. Norton directs me how to remove them one by one but it is a lengthly process, Is there a program that will simplify this for me, or should I just reformat this thing? Good Luck Tyee

Location: Rhinelander | Go to Lava Soft's website and download the free Ad Aware program, then run it. Follow instructions exactly, and I bet you remove over 200 spyware nasties. Then go to Altavista and download the Altavista tool bar, blocks pop ups completely.

Both will cost you a couple $$ but both work well, do a web search for Cyberscrub, I am thinking either of those should be around $20-$30. If you have Earthlink they have a spyware cleaner as part of their software in the "total access 2004" software. They also have this free thing, but it doesn't remove anything, just tells you what you have: http://www.earthlink.net/spyaudit/

Location: Rhinelander | I run the Ad Aware program once a week, and remove an additional 4 to 6 every time.

Member Posts: 1406 | Steve, Thanks for that link. Mcafee only found 7 threats and adware located 70, I have a question though. After you Quarentine them do you delete them? And is it worth it to purchase the license to have it check automatically? So far this seems to be a good program. Thanks againand Good Luck Tyee

Location: Rhinelander | Yes, delete them. I didn't upgerade because I don't mind running the program every week manually. Zach recommended I download this program, and it has worked very well.

You may want to consider purchasing the zone alarm software from zone labs.It prevents a lot of invasions while you are on line.Norton is pretty worthless I'm told by the guy who I paid to have all this crap removed from my system. He used spybot and then ran the ad aware program right after it. Seems to work pretty good. You should also try to exit your internet conection when not using it.It will keep all the invasions from finding an "open" computer to get in to.Also be sure to shut your system down for the night,or whenever you will not be using it for some time. Run these anti virus programs at least once a week, should keep your system in tune. It's a battle, but what else can a guy do.

Member Posts: 794 Location: Elgin, Illinois | Do a Google search for SpyKiller... Cost is $30.00 and it will identify and remove more spyware/adware threats than most of the others. I use Ad-Aware and SpyBot on most of my client's systems. But, I also use Spykiller if I can convince the client to buy it...
