Not trying to steal anybodies thunder here. But for you guys that haven't heard yet, the PWT championship at Milford Lake KS. was one tough bite. With both high air and water temps that compared to ours this summer on Saginaw Bay, the walleyes were in the same type funk ours have been in since mid-July. Many Pro's zeroed for all three days of the championship, and a three fish basket at the weigh-in was considered a miracle. The #5 Shad Rap's caught many of the few fish that crossed the stage for the 3 day event, with Purple/Pearl and Blue/Pearl colors being the hot ones.

But a new kid/lure on the block helped Chase Parsons capture second place at the championship, as well as the big fish prize on day three. It also helped reinforced his 2005 Rookie of the Year status. Chase used the new Dave's Ka'Boom Balsa Ruff Guy on day three and jumped from 6th to 2nd place on the final day. I haven't got the full scoop yet on the color Ruff Guy that Chase used, but will pass it on when I hear. Welcome to, and a great start on the walleye scene for both Chase and the "Ruff Guy".

We have the whole story on video, Zach has it. He's fishing a WAT this weekend, but I bet we can get him to quote what was said early next week. Chase definitely liked that lure!

That would be great Steve. With the conditions being the same on both bodies of water, (Milford and Saginaw Bay) I'm really ancious to know all the particulars about what Chase did and how he did it, to maybe duplicate it on the tough Bay bite. If not this year, maybe next year if the same senario presents itself.

And by the way. It appears I goofed and posted the picture of the "Goody Minnow" and not the "Ruff Guy". Heres the Ruff Guy picture.

Chase is at a Bass Pro event in Chicago this weekend. When he returns I'll let him know about this post and he can bring everyone up to speed. He did recieve a couple of these baits on Saturday night, before his last day, and I do know that he was trolling quite a bite slower than everyone else.

Hey everyone,

Finally have some time now to reply to this post. The last day of the tournament I did catch my fish on the new Dave's Kaboom Ruff Guy. There will be two sizes in this lure, I was using the larger one. Looks as if it's the same size as a number 5 glass shad rap. The final day I decided to get away from the large pack of boats because the bite had been really slow, so I went close to the dam where we had caught some short fish in practice. I put a Ruff Guy on and the first pass I caught a 23 incher with it. Then about two passes later I caught the 6.3 pounder. A key was definetly to let your baits pound bottom, and where I was fishing there was a severe break from 30-38 feet. I would let the baits pound on the top edge, then run them off into deeper water. I caught both the fish as the baits were just pulling off the bottom. Im not quite sure the name of the color of this bait, but it has a black top with grayish stripes on the side and has paintings like a real fish. If i figure out the name I will post it here. I think the big difference for me in the tournament was that I was going slower than most guys in the "pack". It seemed they were going anywhere from 2.2-2.5 probably, where as I was trying to keep the boat at 1.9-2.1 mph. It was tough in the "pack" to keep a constant speed because of how rough it was and having to zig zag amongst the boats. The first day my fish actually came away from the pack as well. I did catch them off the same area Indian Point, however way on the north side near School Creek. There was only one boat within sight when I caught them. Dad has always preached to me to get fish going away from others, and also when trolling, the slower the better, for big ones. So i gotta hand it to the "old man" because I would have never decided to make that run the last day if it wasn't for him.

Thanks for the info Chase.

I'm hope nobody (Loyal to any board) will find "your" actual facts as being commercial.

Great story Chase. Thanks a ton for sharing - its always nice to hear about a particular technique from the guy who had success with it. As with most things, the devil is in the details and getting a little insight into why you were doing something is often times more important than what.
