Heading to South Dakota to fish Cabelas on Lake Sharpe next week. I've never fished the water so I'd welcome any tips or information on this impoundment.

Alright, here's a bit of info.

Lake Sharpe is a clear water fishery, not swiming pool clear.. sometimes a bit murky in spots if the wind blows or they get a big rain and the Bad River dumps mud. Or, if they get REALLY strong (40-50mph) winds blowing upstream that will make it murky down river. But overall, this time of year, its fairly clear, clean water. There is current, but not really strong current. As the day starts and goes on they tend to open the gates at the Dam and therefore more curren flow. The bite is best when they are running water. Again not really fast current. Crawlers work good this time of year. I ussually just fish a bottom bouncer and plain hook. Not really any need for spinners. But if your a spinner nut, then try them too...they'll work, but I ussually out fish the spinner guys with just a plain hook and 1/2 crawler. There are weeds showing up now on the sand bars. Fishing the bar breaks is a good way to start. Fish 2 weeks ago were in 5-8' of water, and should still be in that 8-10'. There is some 15-20' water but most of the active fish should be up shallow. most of the sand bars run down the middle you'll want to stay in the channel when running. Be really carefull crossing from bank to bank in spots. You can be in 1' of water in a hurry. I've pulled a few people off sand bars at time. Good Luck!
