I am currently in the process of looking for a new boat with a
kicker motor. I have not picked a brand but I am leaning
towards a T8. I have never owned or even been around a boat
with a kicker motor.

How do you have your kickers set up? At first I was thinking
of having a tiller handle but my local boat dealer recommended
a control arm attached to my main motor that enables the use
of the steering wheel?

On the Yamaha page it gives (Remote Steering) as an option.
Is that what it is referencing?

I am interested in knowing how you have your kickers set up,
and what is easier for forward and back trolling?

You will want a tiller handle on your kicker, with the option of a tie bar from your kicker motor to the main engine. Use it when you want, remove it and run via the tiller when you need faster steering response.

Don't forget the TrollMaster for preise speed control.

I agree on the tiller version, with the Panther Tie Bar.

Definetly go with the T8 it's the best out there and the tie bar to the big engine. With the new Troll master you don't need the tiller handle everything is controlled by the ignition key and trollmaster. I have a new one setup this year on my rig and it is sweet!!!

T8 was the best. The Merc Prokicker has raised the bar.

And as mentioned, go with the tiller version, especially if you ever want to backtroll. You can add a start button and a trim tilt switch at the console if you want.

You will definitely want the option of removing the tie bar and going straight off the tiller handle. There are many times trolling with cranks or in windy conditions you simply cannot get he range of motion to steer tightly enough with the tie bar.

I have a Removable bar that conects the kicker to the main motor for steering. I would leave the tille handle on, because for some situations I like to sit back by it and steer it by hand.

T-8 kicker best out there hands down......Most will agree on this and get the trollmaster. Get handle version, more versatile and tie bar kit...
