The date has been set.

Fort Fremont Marine will host the 8th Annual "Walleye Classic" On April 19th-2008. Teams from all corners of the earth, or at least Wisconsin, will vie for the top prize and bragging rights. Details to follow shortly. Mark your calanders.

As in the past, returning teams will have preferential placement with openings going on a first come first served basis. To get on the mailing list as a new team, or with any questions, e-mail me at [email protected].

Looking at many new ideas for this year. Got an Idea? Send it over.

Hope to be able to fish this one again Stacker. Have to wait until the SWC figures out what they are doing... hopefully they will be fishing the Wolf the next day again.

I was just thinking that IF the SWC was going to be at somewhere else that weekend that we might not fish it. If it doesn't conflict with SWC or your schedule, I definitely want to fish it with ya Jayman. And yes J, that was one of the most physically draining days I have ever spent on the water. Between the trolling motor only working when it wanted to and the number of fish coming unbuttoned, I was way past ready for a big cry and a nap by weigh in...

Stacker - I thought the event was run very well last year. Didn't you have some sort of raffle going on during the event? Something about a raffle where you had tickets with boat numbers on them, then awarded prizes to spectators based on how the boat finished??? Pretty sure that was you did last year and I thought that was pretty cool.

Perhaps some games for the kids to play? Casting contest? Flip the practice plug into a kiddie pool of water through the ring and win a 3-pack of jigs or something like that? Probably want to make it clear up front that the bigger kids like Rich can't play to avoid a scene at the event though...

I have always wanted to have a calcutta in a fishing tournament. They bring in a ton of extra interest in our pool tournaments. The beauty of them is that anyone can bid on the teams, not just the contestants. It could be done at the rules meeting and would ony take an extra 30 minutes. Most of the time the money is bigger in the calcutta then the actual tournament. Just a thought.

Jayman and Brad B,

The SWC is planning to have their first event the day after the Fort Fremont. At least that is what was determined at last month's meeting.

I got a few IM's about the calcutta. Appearently a lot of guys have never heard of these. Here is how it works. It will sound a bit complicated but it really isn't.

Denny will advertise there will be a calcutta open to the public at a certain time and date (after the rules meeting). This is voluntary to the contestants. Starting with team #1, you auction off the teams to the highest bidder (winning team from last year will draw a big amount). Teams are allowed to bid on themselves but that rarely happens. Once the bid is final, the team has the option of buying themselves for half. So lets say a local buys the winning team from last year for $50 the team has the option to pay $25 to the local and gets half the calcutta winnings. If they decide not to buy half, the local gets all the winnings. Once all the teams are sold, Denny totals all the money and decides how many place to pay down in the calcutta. This money is totally seperate from the actual tournament. So the tournament may only pay down to 5th with 1st being $800 but the calcutta might get a ton of participation and have 3 times the money as the tournament. Best part is ANYONE can win. So if the local bought the winning team from last year (team #1) and they took 5th this year, the local gets the 5th place money in the calcutta.

This would probably take a few years to catch on but you would have the ONLY fishing tournament with a calcutta that I know of and it would encourage outside participation. Us pool players are just a bunch of gamblers that are always looking to up the stakes so this might not be a good fit for fishing tournaments. They are HUGE at pool tournaments so I thought it might be worth mentioning.

Thanks for the info, Jerry.

Sounds like we're IN....

Hmmm Calcutta sounds interesting, and there's a good chance Brad and I could buy our half for 25 cents.

Some of the calcuttas I've been in have auctioned off a "choice" bid at the start. So the calcutta opens with the highest bidder getting to pick the team they want. No reason you couldn't go all the way through the order that way, probably get more money in it. If you want to make it faster, combine two teams together (one bid gets both teams).

I wonder how that would go over with the authorities? Otherwise, sounds like a chance for a local group to use as a fundraiser as well.

Denny I was thinking the same thing! Could the monies go to a charity?????Maybe a way around the law and for a good cause, maybe sponsor a kids event or else have it run by another person taking you out of the picture, either way it sounds like a good idea.
Good Luck

I know we have never had a problem and I have been shooting in tournaments for a long time. Not to say they would not have a problem with it if it was brought to their attention. I guess I never considered it to be against the law.

OK Many suggestions flowed in. Here are a few, what do you think.

1- The last 7 years we have had 50 boats 50 bucks a boat. we have filled the first day for the last 5 years. Wanna go to 75 boats at 50 bucks or 75 boats at 75 bucks? bigger money?

2- big fish has been 10 dollars a boat, go to 20 bucks with 75 boats and pay down 3 or more places.

3- The dancing girls are out.

4- I would also like to have more sponsors to push up the total purse payout, i agree. However, this is a small event. Currently The sponsors are Tuffy boats, they feed you when you get in. Mercury marine with a tent to operate under and free give aways, the auto gazette for putting your pics in the paper and making you a star, the sheboygan walleye club for the use of there people and there scales, Ma's bait and tackle getting you hooked up with minnows. Does anyone have a reason to promote there business at our event? Let me know. I would like to have some displayers next year. It could be alot of different items, just ask.

5- Kids events during the day. Have thought on this. will trying to get a working model.

6- set time for a weigh in. we start at 1pm and finish with the last boat in the second flight. That is about as close as we can get. the money gets handed out about 45 mins after the last boat.

Let me know guys.

Keep a close eye on your mail box starting thursday. The invitations are being sent out wednesday the 9th. If you want a low number, get it back in very soon. For those of you that have not fished this before, open enrollment will start on february 4th. Drop me a e-mail with your address and I will send a form out to you. Send it back and get in line. There will be 75 boats at 50 bucks a boat for a 1500 U.S. Dollar first prize and the coveted plaque. [email protected]
