| Would you mount a 25.5 inch probaly bewteen 6-8lb walleye if its your first big one and live somewhere where there isnt a lot of big walleye |

Location: Elgin, Illinois | It is not only about the size of the fish... It is more about the "size" of the moment. Sound like that fish means something to you and that having it mounted will bring you a lot of satisfaction... I'd get it mounted.
My son caught a 4-12 Northern when he was 6 years old... He had baited his own hook with the sucker. He was the one who had made the cast and he was the one who reeled it in. We have a photo of him and that fish... I really do wish I had had it mounted. He is 26 now and he still remembers that fish and that moment. |

| I probably should explain, because I didn't mean to sound callous. I like repro's much better than skin mounts, and not because I am a CPR muskie guy. I just think they look better, and last a lot longer. I have my first 10 mounted from 1993. Lots of memories in that mount, but it looks like crap right now. Dull, and beginning to show cracks in the skin. The Repro ski I have looks like the day I put it on the wall 6 years ago. I am going to have a repro of that first 10 done, and the skin mount will be relegated to the summer home. |

As far as reproductions go. I like pointing at the fish on the wall and saying "That's Him". Not, "That looks like him".

| Sounds like you want to mount it. I'd say go ahead. There is more to mounts than just showing who got the biggest fish. Some of my favorite mounts that I have had done in both fishing and hunting wouldn't impress anyone for size, but they do hold a memory. |

| Yeah thanks guys i wasnt sure if i should get it mounted or not but now i think i am going to and the only way i would get another one mounted if it was 30+inches or 10+lbs |

| Walleye guys aren't Muskie guy's. You can ask questions about mounting fish and not get your head taken off. Fishing is about making memories, if you want it mounted go ahead and mount it.
Just for clarifaction, I fish for Muskie also. I'm not advocating that he kills fish just for mounting. But unlike Muskie there is alot more Walleye and I see no reason they can't be kept either to eat or have mounted. |

| Absolutely agree. I just think the repro's look and last so much better.
Most of my best memories of the walleyes I catch are at the dinner table. |

| yeah i know what u mean about muskie guys who get PO'd if you keep a fish of a lifetime but i also fish for muskie and i think its up to the angler if he or she wants to get it mounted or not |

| If you don't mind spending the money.. go for it.
Years ago I caught 3 dandy bluegills between 11 and 12 inches. I was going to mount them, and a friend in the boat said he would really like to have them and do the same. He kept them and the mount never happened. That was 15 years ago and I still wish I have made that mount.
Do what makes you happy.
I am sure it will make a nice conversation piece.

| Tyler, If you are interested, sometime this summer, I'll take you and a friend out on the Bay of Green Bay for a day of Walleye fishing. Just one look at you holding that fish reminds me of why I have a 24 inch Walleye mounted even though I've caught a 32 incher and a few over 12 pounds... It's all about the experience. I've caught and released a bunch of 10lb+ fish in the last 5 years and they don't even come close to catching my first 24 incher out of my first boat I bought with my own money back when I was 18. I still remember every detail of the catch many years later. Go ahead and get it mounted.... |

Bragging is allowed around here and we all like a good story -- I can tell by the smile on your face you're ready to share Did you catch it on Bald Eagle in the Twin Cities? I used to fish thre a lot when I lived in St. Paul. Never got a decent eye but I did get a 14" crappie on a 3" shiner out there. |

| i actually caught it out of the Bald Eagle River in PA in a little town named Castena ive decided to not get it mounted just got down filliting it i think i can catch a 10lber around here if i try hard enough but thanks for the info |

We have the same arguement all the time over at MuskiFirst.com. What is a trophy? Well, since I've been fishing for eyes, I've always felt the bar was set at 10 lbs. It took me til I was 34 until I got my first 10 lber. I had it mounted, and today, it doesn't look so good. I wish they had the great replica's they have now, back then. I'm going to have a replica done of that 10 pretty soon. Then maybe the wife will let me have it in the house! |

| I never kicked myself for not getting my first 10#er mounted. No kicks for the several 10#ers after that one, either. Haven't kicked myself for the two 11#ers yet, and I'm still not kicking myself for releasing the 12#er.
I fully agree that anglers should be able to do what they want with their legally caught fish ... me, personally, I want to catch them again.

| I would pay the extra money and get it mounted in some kind of underwater scene or in a table or something. That way it is a work of art or a piece of furniture that you will cherish. Nothing is worse in my eyes than to get just a fish mount, then a couple years later it ends up in the attic or in the closet. When I was doing fish taxidermy I would see it all the time. If it's special enough to get mounted, the mount should be special.
Just my two cents.
