Fished Friday afternoon/evening, hooked, 2 sturegeon and 0 walleyes Fished saturday afternoon/evening hooked, 1 sturgeon and 0 walleyes Fished sunday afternoon, hooked 1 sturgeon and 0 walleyes. Member Posts: 166 Location: Freedom, WI | Fished for 2 hours on Friday, managed 3 eyes, 14,15,17, then again in the same area for 6 hours on Saturday and only managed 2 that were 14.5 and 15.5. All fish caught in a deep hole where the river bends. I will be out Tuesday with the anchors, trying the old "pump a pair" technique. Anyone been doing any good this way?

Member Posts: 885 | Thanks for the report.... I'm stuck here in my office and have not even given too much thought to uncovering my boat. I'm off next week and considering a trip to the wolf to do battle with those monster 12 inchers I seem to catch. If you need a partner next week.... let me know, I promise I won't break anything in your boat. PS

Just make sure to stay several hundred feet away from any people fishing off their dock or anchored. I found out they changed the law now and some people really do own parts of the river ![]() I am also amazed at the number of "big" fish up there. Although my experience with that stretch of river is limited, I thought hooking 15 un-riseable fish a day was a bit much. It must look like a goth convention with all the piercings these fish are swimming around with.

Member Posts: 84 | I have been doing ok double pumping jigs. Have been fishing the inside bends/shallow. Late last week was really good with some big females landed especially after dark. Has been slower since Sunday for the big girls. Yes, lots of Hoovers around-some look like Christmas trees with all of the ornaments hanging out of their mouths

Member Posts: 166 Location: Freedom, WI | Was out last evening in the rain and snow. Anchored up and only managed 1 male, but watched another guy get his limit in about 2.5 hours, with 1 20" female in the mix. Tried after dark a bit with no luck. You guys that night fish, how do you feel your jigs hit bottom? Also, do you still jig the same way as during the daylight, or do you do better on rigs?

Member Posts: 84 | This year I have been pumping 1/4 oz jigs. You dont really feel the jig hit the bottom. Again I am fishing shallow in low current areas. I always jig at night out of my boat. Only use rigs off of the raft

If you have a good rod you can feel the jig hit the bottom, at least I have never had a problem. If you are in a high current area you may have to use a heavier jig.

Member Posts: 166 Location: Freedom, WI | On the river today, what a waste of time! Fished from Gills up to Guths and only managed 1 13" male. Not very many boats out and for good reason, the fish weren't biting! The current was ripping faster than I've seen in years, and there were debris hindering my jigs all day. Oh well, at least the forecast looks good, let the sun and warm temperatures come baby!

The 3 of us fished yesterday 4/13. We started up at New London and after 4 hours of no bites and not seeing any fish caught, we moved to Fremont and drifed in the fast current. We caught 3 eyes. One in front of Chicos, one by the Rat and one in the mouth at Poygan. Also got 3 cats (small), a sucker, a sheep and a sturgeon. Water was 37 degrees at Fremont and 36 at New London.

Member Posts: 174 | A bunch of spawned out fish were caught this morning near New London in slower current . Anchoring in about 8' of water and bouncing jigs across current is working.

New User Posts: 3 | Fished from 6 til 4:30. Poygan to Red Banks. Caught 0. After 10+ hours saw only one fish hooked and it looked to be a sturgeon by the size. Hope better days are coming. Water was 48*

Member Posts: 18 | So does that mean as long as you're in Winnebago county you can still go faster than slow no wake??

Member Posts: 885 | Kendall was up in Shawano yesterday morning tagging along the river all the way to the dam. His therory is that the marshes were frozen downstream early in the run so the fish continued upstream to Shawano. So far they have tagged 10,000 Eyes, all healthy with no signes of VHS. My business partner was on the boat yesterday helping net fish. Purple Skeeter

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | winnebago county has enacted as of april 16th a emergency slow no wake. That will be a slow no wake with 500ft of any pemanant dwelling. Fishing rafts are not permenant dwellings. The whole river is now under that emegency order. Denny Also, for future reference, the guest that posted stating that waupaca county ended at chicos missed it by 3 miles. It is on a line from gala resort across the river to the ditch just upstream. That is the county line. Edited by stacker 4/17/2008 1:55 PM

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | guest, when was the last time you were on the river? hard to say where the biggest fish will be, they are on the move all the time in the river as they will move back to lakes, but you knew that, LOL,..... just joking.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | Just an FYI for all the new people. The tounament was was won up river from fort fremont and anyone who went down did not get a whole lot. Remember that it is very hard to call where a win will take place, feel for it when on the water and use your intuition.
