Any word on how the bite is on the bay? I was thinking of signing up on the co- side for the up-coming flw league but I am rethinking it with the tough bite for the FLW Tour on bay de noc. Any input?

Member Posts: 514 Location: Darboy USA | Lower Bay is giving up lots of fish up to 29", just have to be in the right spot. Had some guys I know go out yesterday and caught over 40 eyes. They are there, just need to be in the right spot at the right time with the right bait.

Member Posts: 56 | I've had great days fishing on the bay and can honestly say I've never caught 40 eyes on a trip, river yes, bay no, I must be doing something wrong!

Member Posts: 885 | I've had days where I blanked for the first 3 hours and then the wind would switch and I would catch 50+ fish, I had an experience like that today fishing on the Bago system, first 2 hours, flat calm, weeds everywhere, bugs were driving me crazy, and then the wind kicked up and I put 22 Walleyes in the boat in the next 4 hours. Hard to go to GB right now, the Bago system is very productive. Purple Skeeter

Member Posts: 885 | Just got back from my first trip to the bay in over a month. Took me a whlie to get it figured out. Ran 23 feet of water, 60 back with hammered copper, black/orange beads, 1.3-1.5 mph. Basically, I was dragging bottom. Put 15 Walleyes in the boat. All 22-28 inches. I tried running 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 back with not a single bite in 4 hours of fishing. I was about to pack iit in and call it a day. The wind was strong and the waves were 3-4 footers, not a lot of fun to fish in. At the last minute, I thought I'd try 60 back, 5/8 oz weight, just about fell out of the boat when a Walleye hit as the harness hit bottom as I was letting it out. Reset all 3 lines same way and put 14 more in the boat in 2 hours. Did not catch any other fish today. Purple Skeeter

Purple Skeeter I did well in a little deeper water on the west shore Friday evening but everything was high, like really high, only a split shot and 50 feet back. I returned to the area Sunday afternoon and couldn't get bit unit I put everything deep, I ended up with a half dozen from 22'' -28.5'' and some monster sheephead. The bite seems to be more steady but the fish are not concentrated at any one depth. Good Luck to all.

You could be fishing deeper than you think. The right split shot and 50' of line could put you 12 feet deep. Can you elaborate more?

Member Posts: 56 | You caught 29 walleyes in (let's say) 4 hours or so, with 15 of them being 22'' to 28'' with 3 lines out, in 3 to 4 footers? wow!

Member Posts: 885 | Out on Wednesday with a friend from Milwaukee, same spot, it was almost the exact icons from Tuesday. First hit at 10 am, long first 3 hours without a hit and again tried 30-40-50 back, did not get a hit till we ran 60 back, dragging bottom, pulling up zebras as we let them out. The trick today was to go fast until you had them all set and then slow down, same blade, 5 in the boat, missed 2 by the boat. 20-22's nothing bigger. Then they shut down, everyone left including us. On the way back, I thought we would try shallow as the conditions were perfect. Too many weeds to run my shallow spot even though we were marking a ton of big fish in the weeds, we could not get a harness in the water for more than a minute. Ran to 13 feet of water outside the weeds and drifted toward shore, 45 back no weights, caught 3 15-17 inch fish and called it a day. I'm sure we could have caught many more in shallow, but the storm was coming pretty fast. Had the weirdest thing happen today, I was trying out a new rig running a 1 oz Cabelas Perch jigging spoon as an inline weight only running 15 back and something hit the weight instead of the harness and not only broke the weight, it also snapped the line at my rod tip before I could get the rod out of the rod holder with 50 feet of line between the rod and my inside board. I quickly put a "Man Over Board" icon where I was and started looking for the board, it was nowhere in sight. In 3 foot waves, I was worried I would never find my board, I have never lost a board and these have my new tattle flags and my LED lightsetup so it's worth $50. After 30 minutes of slowly following a path, I found it floating about 1/4 mile upwind. It was sheer luck. When I looked at where I lost it, I was amazed at how far upwind that thing had traveled in 3 footers. Whatever hit the Perch weight, must have been one big fish! Member Posts: 885 | Well... the Cableas 1 oz jigging spoon almost cost me a board, but I really don't notice a difference. When I have someone along with me, I will often run the 1oz spoons and then the 5/8 oz weights with little or no difference. Purple Skeeter

Location: Kewaskum, Wi. | I will be going to Peninsula State Park ,camping this weekend and have never fished the area for walleyes. I'm a Winnebago guy but must admidt I'm intrigued with trying my hand on Green Bay. Could someone head me to an area I at least stand a chance at catching a few walleyes with my kids. I'm not looking for your best spots just some good general areas.

Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | It's been awhile since I've been there but I would be concerned about launching my boat at Peninsula State Park. My understanding is that the water has been too low for a few years to launch a bigger rig. I hope I am wrong but check into it. You will be right in front of one of the most famous community holes in the area called Larson's Reef. It is a lot bigger than most people imagine and basically goes from Sherwood Point to Snake Island. Fish can and will be caught here throughout the summer. I would also check out the Henderson's Point area and Monument Shoals. That's more area than you can cover in a weekend. Crawler harnesses will be the number one choice. You are also in a great area for smallmouth if you like fishing for them. Little Sturgeon Bay, Sand Bay and the Shipping Canal can all be productive. This may be an alternative in case of a blow day. White tandem spinners and tube jigs work for me. Good Luck Attachments ---------------- ![]()

I think they did something at Pot park to make that launch usable. There are a bunch of bouys there now marking the way out. I launched my 17.5' deep-v there in June. It is still not as good as Peninsula though.

Thanks Sunshine for the info on Green Bay. I will try those areas you mentioned . I'm looking forward to fishing with my kids on a new body of water with the hopes they can hook a trophy walleye.

Member Posts: 3899 | Lots of great fishing nearby Pennisula. No problem launching there, either. Larson's has been slow as late, but some nice fish were caught at Chamber's Island, and Horseshoe this past week. I like Hat, too, and the fish from the Volcano are always the fattest in the Bay! Just a real cool area to fish. Edited by Shep 8/4/2008 1:22 PM

Member Posts: 885 | Hit the water today and ran 25-26 feet of water, 35-40 back, 1 oz weights, Hammered Copper with black/orange beads, 1.2mph. 13 very nice Walleyes (22-28 inches) in 3 hours. It took us a while to find them. Flat calm, weeds and bugs everywhere. PM Me if you need details or call me on my cell#. I'm on the water all week. Put a 32 inch, 11lb 13 oz monster in the boat yesterday that's going on the wall. Purple Skeeter

Member Posts: 885 | Fished today from 7am till 4 pm, beautiful day on the bay, lots of very nice fish again today. Caught fish in 22-29 feet of water. Found fish just about everywhere we stopped. Everything on Hammered Copper again today. Mix in a bunch of Sheephead and Catfish with our Walleyes. Had to be near bottom or I could not get a hit. My partner caught 7 straight fish in a row and then he decides to tell me that he is fishing 5 feet farther back than me.... thanks Jim!, now if I could only teach you to clean up the weeds in my boat.
