Everything has gone up. I checked out the new BPS catalog and about fell over when I saw the 2009 prices on some items. For example, Diawa Tiara I paid 114 last year it's 124 this year. I went to BPS in Rothford OH, they wanted 39.99 for an Offshore board and OR-18 Releases were priced at 16.99!!, the local shops around Erie sell those for 10.99-12.99.
Gander Mountain did have a TON of Rapalas on sale here in Ohio, got them for 20% off so 4.80 a piece, I have seen them for almost 7.00 or better at a few places...signs of the times I guess.

7.99 for Rapalas at Cabellas and Gander Mountain. They both have a 25% sale going on. I noticed the Shimano reels have taken a hefty jump as well.:(

It's a backlash from the high oil (plastic) prices last summer... trickling down... lead is getting pricy too... shop around and see what you can get... buy in bulk if you can...

My advice.....cash in your 401K...or 201K if you're like me. And use what's left to buy cranks. Sure money!

After the penalty for withdrawing early, I am not sure I will have enough to buy one at these prices. It always amazes me how they blame the increase in cost on gas but then once gas goes down the price stays the same. I understand there is a delay but when is the last time you saw the price go down??

An oldie but a goodie... I can't decide if I want to re-invest or buy some cranks.

After this weeks stock market … here are some 401k retirement investments compared:

  • If you had purchased $1000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00.

  • With Enron, you would have $16.50 left of the original $1000.

  • With WorldCom, you would have less than $5.00 left.

  • If you had purchased $1000.00 of Delta Airlines stock you would have $49.00 left.

  • If you had purchased United Airlines, you would have nothing left.

But ... if you had purchased $1000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for recycling, you would have $214!!!!

Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle!!!!!!!!!

This is called the 401-Keg Plan.

We have a 200% match up to 6% for our 401K here and I am still down on my money! On the positive side I am only 34 so hopefully it bounces back in the next 28 years. I thought they were bargain prices when the dow was at 8k

No price increases here. I have a "Recession Special" going on right now. Rolled back custom painting prices a few years to $4/lure, almost any lure.

Yes!!!

I just paid my business taxes and realized that the only place this economy is going to grow is if you get a job in his administration.  I'm selling everything I own to try and survive the next 4 years.  Yes I think it's going to get that bad.

There are a few areas that will do fine in this economy if one has the correct talent.

I've read two reports from fishing insider news reports that predict that 40% of the marine industry will be gone by the end of the year.

Some have indicated that it has already started and will get worst now that GE has notified dealerships that their rates have just gone up on floor plans.

Batten down the hatches boys!

Please old wise one redneck enlighten (tongue-in-cheek) us underlings on the robust areas of the economy. I have 300+ businesses as clients across the Midwest and every one of them is facing dire conditions. These were successful businesses that have been around for more than 25 years, owner operated medium to small operations with 100-450 employees. Every one of the owners has spent untold time and effort to build their business and each of them knows their way around the business community. They are frightened beyond belief, depressed and working their tails off every day to survive. All have suffered through layoffs of good employees, many of which had been there more than 15 years. I’ve worked with these people facing layoffs and they are devastated!!

There will always be a need to provide the essentials, but the real question is, will there be anyone left after the next 4 years of this administration that will have any money left to pay for it. I agree with Sunshine, businesses in many industries including the recreation industry are going to close their doors in the next 4 years. I started to liquidate all my toys and non-essential items a year ago and I sold all my investments for cash. I'm just hoping I have enough cash to support my family for the next 4 years. Talk to anyone in business, they are worried sick right now. I’m sure the 75 employees that just got their notice at Sportsman’s in DePere would appreciate your wisdom.

The prison system is booming. 3 squares and plenty of exercise probably looks pretty darn good to a lot of people right now.

Hard to stay in prison nowadays here...Doyle wants to release drug offenders early now. You'd have to do something really bad like not pay your taxes...

Not pay your taxes? That's a sure fire way to get a job in the new administration.

Maybe that 's what RNT is talking about?

Look, my wife and I have both lost our jobs...she lost hers 6 months ago and has had very little luck finding new work and I was laid off 3 months ago from my full time job. I went back and opened my old business and have been doing fine...I'm not going to get rich but we are able to keep up on all bills. Moose Lake has been taken up by 15 new clients since Jan. 1st and is growing at a fast rate.

Art and entertainment (at least from my view) has not been hit as hard. Government jobs will be fine for obvious reasons.

Are businesses closing...yes, are entire industries disappearing...no. What I did was take my skill and offer that to a complete industry, not a company, at a low rate and let eight companies co-op my services for a rate that saves them money.

Maybe we should start a thread on what we all do for a living so that we could help each other out. I'm always looking for ways to get work for people I know with my customers I work with.
