Member Posts: 1382 | MINNEAPOLIS (Aug. 11, 2009) – FLW Outdoors announced that it has reluctantly filed a lawsuit in Minnesota State Court against BRP/Evinrude for their failure to pay its agreed upon sponsorship fees for the entire 2009 FLW Outdoors tournament season. Irwin L. Jacobs, Chairman of FLW Outdoors stated, “FLW Outdoors has had a long-term sponsorship and working relationship with Evinrude as a premier sponsor of FLW Outdoors and its tournaments. In 2009, FLW Outdoors received confirmation from Evinrude officials both in writing and verbally that Evinrude had agreed to the continuance of their sponsorship with FLW Outdoors at about the same level of sponsorship fees for 2009 as they had in 2008.” Throughout FLW Outdoors’ 2009 tournament season, Evinrude’s representatives and/or management have participated in all of FLW Outdoors’ tournaments. Further, Jacobs stated, “FLW Outdoors has fully supported Evinrude’s sponsorship throughout the 2009 FLW Outdoors’ tournament season. Evinrude has enjoyed all of the same contractual marketing commitments that FLW Outdoors supported Evinrude with in 2008, including, but not limited to, substantial onsite space for displaying and marketing their products at all tournament locations; Evinrude engines installed on half of all FLW Outdoors/Ranger stage and tournament boats throughout all tournaments; signage throughout all FLW Outdoors tournament locations; television commercials on all FLW Outdoors television programming worldwide; magazine advertising; internet marketing and advertising; and heavily-promoted Evinrude on all marketing materials and advertising as part of FLW Fantasy Fishing, an international game worth $10 million in cash and prizes. Yet Evinrude has refused to pay FLW Outdoors any of the amounts it promised as consideration for those benefits.” Jacobs further stated, “Not only are we terribly disappointed in the fact that Evinrude hasn’t paid any of their agreed-upon sponsorship fees for 2009, but they also haven’t paid any of the committed contingency dollars on behalf of their Evinrude Pro Staff anglers through the 2009 FLW Outdoors tournament season. FLW Outdoors has advanced on Evinrude’s behalf almost $100,000 to those Evinrude Pro Staff anglers who had cash commitments from Evinrude based upon their performance this season. To date, Evinrude hasn’t reimbursed FLW Outdoors a single dollar for the money that FLW Outdoors advanced on its behalf to the Evinrude Pro Staff anglers.” In nearly 15 years of business and tournament operations, FLW Outdoors has never had to sue a single sponsor for failure to pay their sponsorship fees. FLW Outdoors, named after Forrest L. Wood, the legendary founder of Ranger Boats, is the largest fishing tournament organization in the world. FLW Outdoors has also taken fishing mainstream with FLW Fantasy Fishing, offering the largest awards possible in the history of fantasy sports. This is the first, and if the rumors of Walmart pulling out of FLW are true as well we might feel a big tidal wave within the next few months.......Stay tuned as more fallout comes from the economy along with all the other issues we are all facing.......

Member Posts: 3899 | I wonder how all those creditors that Irwin has skirted paying his debts to, feel about his statements on this? Probably something like, "What gioes around, comes around". Loosely translated, payback is a bi-otch. Wonder what effect this will have on the Tour and League championships? Was Moreyes trip to Wissota last weekend all for naught? Did he figure out how to catch those 14 inchers, and now can't use that knowledge? Certainly the statement about not paying any of the contingencies to the anglers and the $100,000 dollars in contingencies is in direct conflict with each other. Way more than $100K would have been paid/promised in completed tournies thus far. And how does the FLW manage to go nearly a full tourney season without receiving a dime, and yet no red flags were flown prior to this action? Agree with Stacker on his thoughts. Sure to be more of the same bad news for tourney's in the future. What next? Ranger pulling MWS sponsorship? Drop 'n Stay pulling it's monies as well from the local tourneys? Is this actually good news for AIM? I would say no, keeping with my stance that competition is good. Could I have actually been wrong about that? Naw. Edited by Shep 8/11/2009 1:26 PM

Indeed this will be interesting. Keep in mind there are always two sides of the story. There have to be a ton of un-paid for Evinrudes hanging on unsold Ranger transoms out there due to the Genmar bankruptcy. It that were the case it would be tough pill to swallow to send Irwin a pile of cash when you are owed a double pile by him already ...

wow! I dont know BRP is a bigtime Co. boys it all comes down to Politics and this country is under assult. Im getting tired of tightning my belt and hearing about our job producing companies having trouble wile our political representitives are spending money this country doesnt have. Im afraid for our kids and its starting to bug me. the federal and state level are transfurring costs to county and local budgets and all are on the prowl looking for revenue. our U.S companies are under attack and so is our personal household for tax revenue anywhere it can be found. our freinds working for merc in fondy have a choice. Major pay cut or your on the street like the rest out looking for a job at 10 bucks an hour. This is not good an if i had to make a prediction based on the info so far i would say that with the new CEO of Walmart not being a fisherman( major cuts on sporting good space) ad with Merc looking to trim the fat and now BRP having second thoughts about the return on there investment or inibuility to direct spare cashflow to there sponsorship commitments my conclusion is that there will be no FLW next year! Face it ... things need to tighten up and we will be looking at less help. It may just go back to the old here is a great deal on an outboard for the year. if you need another give us a call. I hope im wrong but if i were in the shoes of some of these companies it may be a decision that needs to be made. I do know this... there is a reason it seems 75% of the tournament boats are Rangers and noumber 1 is that they remain the best built boat an the market if money is no object. and 2 the contingency money Ranger has offered in tournaments such as this has sold boats! a lot of them

i would like to add that i hope im wrong! And i Hope these companies see that contingency's sell product, The Flw is such an untapped market for this stuff when you look at all the leagues and the bass ,walleye , salt water and other formats offered, I know plenty of tundra's have been sold it would be sweet if chev or ford would jump in or other fishing or non fishing related would jump in .. An oil company would be nice with anyone showing a reciept from BP or a fuel credit card to the top finnisher. there are potential sponsors out there and i think it just needs some creativity. Can you immagine how many fisherman we are talking about when you look at the entire FLW? put a BP gas card in there pocket for the season and do you know how much money would be spent at those outlets in fuel ice, snacks and stuff? its a shame it hasent been done yet. until then i would think tournament directors need to take a look at tournament locations and offer locations with a suporting river system or water that doesnt mandate a 20 foot boat or a 20 mile run to compete. a softer water location or at least the option of fishing a river on a major big water location can add another 25 boats or more to a tourament if it is open to 16 foot boat pacages or local anglers who think they can put togather a good day or two. hope for the best!

I totally agree about someone like bp stepping in.I'm sure tournament fisherman(who all need lots of gas,and lunch snacks)would be loyal to them for stepping up.It would also be great if BP would offer ethanol free 87 octane. The only place i can find it now is Fleet,and i heard they might not be able to offer it any more after december.Another fine instance of our government at work, forcing ethanol on us, even though its not any better for the environment,is harder on your engine,and gets worse gas mileage.All because the politicians have major stock holdings in ethanol.

Member Posts: 3899 | Plenty of Tundra's have been sold? Where are you getting your info? Tundra sales are down 51% through June, at merely 36,000, Tundra is ranked 6th in sales. Ford Leads, again, down 34%, with 179,000 units sold through June. Only the Nissan Frontier has seen sales slip more, at ^61% down from last year. I bet Tundra hasn't sold more than 100 as a result of contingencies in fishing tourney's.

Location: Rhinelander | Shep, 100 trucks as a result of offering contingency money, and involvement in the fishing world. Impact? Some of the top pros are running a Toyota as a result, which is the very idea. The Tundra is by comparison a newcomer in the full size truck market, and they wanted folks like Keith Kavajecz and Chad Schilling and Tom Gatzke and many others to show what the truck can do to raise awareness. That's exactly what this program did, but the poor economy has hurt the progression grass roots programs like this one usually take. Sure Ford is number one, they have been for a long time. But I won't be negative about a company that is willing to invest directly in competitive angling for walleyes as a promotional campaign, especially in this tough a climate. How much will Ford be paying the top finisher at the next FLW and AIM events? Zero. At least acknowledge that the folks in the Chicago Toyota Trucks office stepped up and are supporting one of your favorite sports, directly with the angler and in a substantial manner. Pretty impressive, IMO. Far as the lawsuit goes, what a mess. It's bad for competitive angling, bad for Genmar and Jacobs Interactive, and bad for BRP. Not a single positive.

Member Posts: 3899 | 100 trucks as a result of offering contingency money, and involvement in the fishing world. Impact? I am assuming Toyota has the same or similar program for Bass, Redfish, and Ocean fish competitive angling as well. If not, that 100 is probably more likely 20 or so for just walleyes. Not trying to be negative, but merely debating what Bradley said with his "tons of Tundras sold" as a result of the contignecy program. Down 61% even in this economy when Ford and GM are down 34-46% kinda says something to me. And I know #6 is not where they envisioned their place in the market when they introduced this truck 3 years ago. Yes, Ford is #1, and has been for 32 straight years. For a reason, I submit. I guess that would be the reason they don't play in the angling market very big. I do know they sponsor a few Bass Pro's. Mark Martin does(used to) have Ford, but they may have been a local Ford dealer deal. And GM is into the FLW, and Bass I think, in a larger extent than Toyota. As for you last statement, "Far as the lawsuit goes, what a mess. It's bad for competitive angling, bad for Genmar and Jacobs Interactive, and bad for BRP. Not a single positive." I couldn't agree more. Edited by Shep 8/17/2009 10:03 AM

Shep not sure where you get ford #1 for 32 straight years but you stated it before and i disagree 100% and so do that facts that ford is not #1.! Ford trucks is a different story they have been the #1. Toyato,honda and bmw have all been top 3 for auto for awhile!

look i didnt want to start a ford , chev, dodge , toyota pissing match here guys. I have a GMC , i like it .. got a bazzillion miles on it! Replaced everything in it over the years but still . If i had to buy a new pickup and they all cost the same i would buy a Tundra out of build quality and the fact that more of the truck was touched by american hands when it was built than the rest it seems now days.(sad) Im brand loyal as much as anyone and if Outboards were all the same price and i had to pick out a new 250 id buy a Merc! yet the yammaha may be better in the long run i cant get past the support Merc has given the industry over the years along with the fact that i live 30 miles from the plant in fondy and hope the best for the place and hope they stay around home. I would buy a Ranger for the same quality issues at this point and re-sale is part of my decisions also. how many Bass guys run Tundra's? i would say the 100 Tundras you speak of may be a little thin.. hmmm buy a Tundra finnish highest and get a check? A nice check? and a nice truck too? Not a bad choice for me if i had to make it. as for Obama supporters and our great congress and senate . all i hafta say is.. Cap and trade bill... i would also like to say thank you to George Bush for SELLING this county out also! Thank you to 90% of the political seat holders as i dont think i can count on more than 1 hand the ones that arent taking advantage of there positions or have any amount of responsibuility when it comes to spending and insider deals! At this point it is now a power grab in washington and at the state level and is attacking what our great country was founded on. time to start a Walleye cercuit with a maximum hp rating of 35 and start putting trailer hitches back on our buicks and oldsmobiles. hey i may just start this new Walleye tour myself so all you big shooters need to start buying a 14 or 16 footer and shave a few cylnders from your ouboards. CATCH AND EAT For sure! building my rig as we speek. . gonna be a 16 foot Mirro (born in Manitawoc wi.) looking for a tiller for it now! if anyone has one laying around let me know!
| |||
bradley894![]() |

You think im kidding? I think im going to start a new cercuit! Maybe a tiller only league maximum length tip to transum 17 ft by the tape measure. and a maximum hp rating of 50! A poor mans league and it will be sundays! entry will be 100 dollars and it will be coolers with ice only! catch and eat! No culling and a ten fish per two man team limmit! We will be going out of cheep lakeside camping or cottage resorts and in places that have a protective river system near by so there will be no blow days. looking for heavy hitter back trollers and slip bobber speacialist and others rigged for catching fish. Time to build a Rig as we will feature monthly a check out this tournament rig addition in our by monthly news letter and on the web. Go out and find that sweet 14 or 16 foot deep v boys and start getting that old rusty trailer cleaned up and painted. tighten up those rivets and pain that old boat! lay in some deck and carpet and get that old tiller set up with an eagle magna 3 plus or 350A! hell i may even put an age restriction on the boat packages and say you can run anythin newer than 10 years old! Then go out and get yourself an old 2 wheel drive s-10 or better yet a conversion van to sleep in! im thinking campgrounds for our take off and weigh in sights! heck we can pull these rigs with a 4 cylender that gets 30 to the gallon! no more 40 50 or 60 mile runs into the great lakes. Are you reading this River Rats? I think im gonna do it! where do i send in for my permits?
