Member Posts: 2567 Location: Manitowoc, WI | I'm planing to take the kids out tomorrow afternoon and hit a few shoteline rocky areas with jigs and slips. Has anybody been out on Winnebago lately? I'm hearing of a few fishing being caught after dark and I hope to find a few while it's still light. Thanks in advance!!

Member Posts: 514 Location: Darboy USA | Rich- I caught 7 eyes on the Bay last week and they were REALLY skinny for Bay fish. Maybe 5 eyes of equal size will weigh more than GB fish early this year?? Bet the 24 inchers were only 2.5#-3.0#.

Member Posts: 2300 Location: Berlin | Wow, that is not the problem here. I would say a 19.5" fish right now is pushing 3lbs. They look like they are full spawn females...but they're not. Edited by Rich S 4/28/2010 9:29 AM

Member Posts: 2567 Location: Manitowoc, WI | The fish we caught on the Bay last year in late April/early May were real skinny too. By mid May they had really fatened up. I think that's just from the normal spawning rigors.

Member Posts: 116 | Hi there Walleyeralpf! (easy day to lose a board out there!) Took my dad out for just over one hour, before the waves tuckered him out, and we had two eyes on #5's also. About 5' to 8' of water. West side. Not as productive as Walleyeralph but my dad sure was excited over the fat 20"er.

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | Out today from 10:30-2:00. I had 2 bites all day but they were worth it; two fat eyes 24" and 19". Pulling harnesses over hard bottom in 10'-11'; Northland holographic Purple Cisco took both fish.

Member Posts: 181 Location: Manawa Wiscowsin | When fishing harnesses has anyone used Gulp crawlers instead of the real kind? How do they compare? The white bass are hitting above New London. Small spinners and cranks (Mirrolure size SM) are the way to go for the big ones.

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | Dave, I've had some success with Gulp crawlers but only on days when they're really biting. In most cases, real crawlers out perform by a wide margin.

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | There are a variety of weights you can use; bouncers, snaps weights, in-lines, spoons, etc...More often than not I use SnapLoc Dipsey weights http://www.watergremlin.com/snaploc.html because I like the versatility. As for size of the weights, it really depends on how deep you want your harness to run. Running depths are very speed dependent. Out in the mud, I like to start out with a 1/4oz, a 1/2oz, and a 1oz each 30' back from the board moving at about 1.1mph. I always run the shallowest running line on the outside. With this set up, I have the bottom half of the water column covered with one line at ~10', one at ~15' and one right at the bottom. If one depth starts producing, I can quickly change out sinkers on the other lines to get into the strike zone. On the reef, I'll set up in a similar way but use a small split-shot, an 1/8oz, and a 1/4oz respectively. If I get into real shallow water just a split-shot or no weight at all.
