this was NOT at the championship, it was at the green bay event. From what i know the AIM staff went as far as to look at the anglers GPS's before making a decision, and a decision was made to implement a small fine.

Thanks for looking into it Steve. I know Jim and his MWS partner and all I can say is they're stand up guys. I know in the heat of battle we can make bad decisions so if something did happen such as that, I can only speculate that a bad decision was made.

I've made bad decisions under pressure myself and was roasted pretty good on the forums, so all I can say is lets not humiliate any more than already has been.

Enjoy the fall and good fishing to all.

This aint Egypt.....my point is this specific topic seems to be a completely valid discussion point. However the tone of the original post and the apparent intent behind it are why, I would suspect, the poster was anonymous.

I've been in this game since before 1989 when I fished my first walleye tourney.....if you have something to say, say it. But don't hide.

My point wasn't Egypt either. Sorry for confusing you. My point was the bullseye (famous on this board) that would be drawn on and used against Add on Rules (The Messenger). Who by the way is not me.

Can somebody shed some light on this with any detail? Was there a fine? Was there a rule infraction? What's the story?

These stories are part of the sport, tell 'em. THE FANS WANT TO KNOW!!!!

WalleyeFIRST contacted AIM officials today, requesting details of this incident. Scott Matheson, AIM CEO, reported that there was indeed an issue, and it was handled according to AIM rules section 1, subsection B, paragraph 6, under the authority of the AIM Tournament Director.

According to AIM officials, Pro Jim Carroll, who was in contention to win the event, was working a specific piece of structure, and according to his data and witnesses had been fishing that water the entire event. When Pro Jim Peterson, who was also in the top of the field in the standings worked through the area, he intersected with Mr. Carroll's path, closely enough so that the two Pros 'spoke' on the water. Mr. Peterson moved out of the area, and upon arriving at the weigh in, immediately informed officials he had unintentionally/apparently approached too closely to another Pro on the water, and that there would possibly be a problem.

AIM officials said Mr. Peterson handled the situation is an extremely professional manner despite some agitation from others. Both he and Mr. Carroll maintained the necessary and required professional decorum throughout the dispute. AIM investigated the content of the protest filed, spoke to all who had information involving the unintentional rules infraction, and come to a decision based upon that information.

AIM officials said today that Mr. Peterson, although not 100% in agreement with the decision, agreed that the decision was understandable, and that he accepted the fine as consequence of his actions on the water, and was looking forward to fishing the AIM events again in 2011.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

A personal observation:
I've been covering pro Walleye events for WF for about 8 years, and have seen this sort of thing happen many times. I clearly remember an FLW where a Green Bay Pro unintentionally ran across another Pro very close, and disrupted that Pro's fishing. That incident was handled in a manner consistent with FLW rules as well, and both Pros behaved extremely professionally during the process.

Rules are in place to handle this sort of thing, and of course and were hardly 'added on' if one takes the time to look at them. When in the heat of the 'battle' on the water, emotions run high and tempers will flare. It's important to remember the dispute was between Pros, not the anglers and the Circuit in a case like this one.

:P WOW... all that was missing was some butterflies, rainbows and fuzzy bunnies, I was @ the weighin and overheard first hand what went down, I'll stick with my original opinion. Scott should write for Barrack if I didn't know better I could be convinced the Stimulous Package is working...

What do you want, that both sides were upset? That's obvious, YET both handled themselves well enough to result in the consequences as described. The person I observed as being the most agitated posted this thread anonymously, so it appears that person doesn't want to be openly attached to this debate. I'll respect that.

If this had been handled worse by anyone involved, the consequences would have been worse...for both Pros and AIM.

Scott didn't write this, Troy, I did. I reported what information I was able to get without sensationalistic tripe attached. OFM saw some of the disagreement too, but that was the 'heat of the moment', and passed quickly. The comments in the first post insinuate favoritism and 'mishandling' of the protest by AIM officials, and the evidence from witnesses on the water and does not. WalleyeFIRST is responding as much to the AIM 'comments' in the original post as the actual incident on the water.

'When in the heat of the 'battle' on the water, emotions run high and tempers will flare. It's important to remember the dispute was between Pros, not the anglers and the Circuit in a case like this one. '

I have been following this post for several days. Maybe this post will help clear the air. First of all I was the co-angler fishing with Jim Peterson. I have fished tourneys for almost ten years on the big river and now am a full time fishing guide.
Jim Peterson was a first class guy to spend a day with in the boat, and Jim has a vast knowledge of the waters in Green Bay.
Here is a little background on the days events. We had recorded five fish on the card when we laid down our boards on a set of waypoints for our third trolling run of the day. There was a boat off in the horizon to the north of our location. We needed two fish to finish out a limit. I am guessing this trolling run was at least a mile to maybe two miles long. We picked up two fish on that run to finish our limit. At what point we caught those two fish I do not remember. We were trolling faster than most boats and we would eventully catch up and pass other boats that were trolling slower. At the point we caught up with a South Dakota boat there was a few words exchanged. Neither Jim or I knew which South Dakota boat it was or who the Pro was driving the boat. With a limit on the card we decided to pull up the boards and try to upgrade our fish. The South Dakota boat approached us mentioned we were on his trolling run. We moved over three hundred yards made a trolling run and then pulled up and left the area. Jim decide to run and gun and fish his waypoints for an upgrade. Being Jim is a local guy his graph is loaded with waypoints. Several missed fish later the day was over and we headed in. There was some words exchanged at the weigh in, but that is part of life. Any of us who have been through the tourney scene knows it happens.
My solid opinion is, this small incident in know way changed the outcome of the tourney. It is just something that happened and end of story.
On a more positive note I was really impressed with the Aim format. I think every circut should follow suit with the CRR method. My two sons also fished and they were luckey enough to spend a day with guys like Gary Parson and Mike Gofron. My son Trevor still talks about the fish that he was trying to net for the eventual winner RBB. Tangled up between the motors on championship day. Not much pressure netting fish for a guy about to win 30,000 bucks.
I hope this post helps clear the air and extinguish the fires that never happened.

P. S. This will be my only post on this subject.

Good Fishing

Ok I am having a hard tiime understanding why this is a issue . I think aim was wrong for docking some weight on this guy. So if i fish the aim and see another boat i should high tail it and get out of the area even though it may be a 2 mile spot and now the other boat has exclusive right to be there?

AIM didn't dock any weight; a small fine was imposed. The protest was one Pro ran past another Pro on a trolling run, apparently on the same run, and apparently close enough to talk to each other. A protest was filed, everything was looked into, and the fine was the result.

It seems both pros feel they did nothing wrong, which should be of no surprise to anyone. Disputes on the water happen in fishing tournaments, rules are in place to handle those disputes, and this one was handled as reported. Neither Pro is complaining here, and I don't expect either will.

"The South Dakota boat approached us mentioned we were on his trolling run."

This is not exactly like having a marker buoy out where you have, in effect, staked a claim to area, structure, spot on spot, etc. and where encroachment by some other boat is readily recognized. Is the issue ownership of a "trolling run" or is the issue lack of maintaining the proper distance from another boat by an overtaking boat? Seems to me it is the latter. How long can a trolling run be and still claim ownership? Can a trolling run even be owned? I hadn't thought so but maybe I am wrong on this one. However, I give way and provide plenty of clearance if I am an overtaking boat and have to go around someone ahead of me. Fishing Lake Erie can seem a traffic nightmare during a tournament with boats going in all kinds of directions but there are rules to follow in regard to who gives way.

This reminds of a time i was fishing the bay on the east side along a very large structure and there was one other boat who throw out 2 marker buoy's that were about .5 miles apart. His buoy's also happen to be right in line with 6 waypoints that i have caught fish on in the past . When he decidedto pull lines to come back to repeat his troll he felt he needed to come by and let me know that he was here first and I shouldnt be fishing any where near his buoy's! I gotto laugh, some poeple think they own the world and they are first person who caught fish in a certain area or because they prefished area 3 days before a tourny .
The scenerio that is explained above has happened a gazilion times in tourny's and isnt worthy to be complained about! IMHO

EXACTLY... KEY WORDS "scenerio that is explained above" By the guy who wasnt in control of the boat and wouldn't exactly know where or what was playing out in the drivers mind. You really think he was going to tell him, "Ya Carrol is on some big fish and I know the structure he's working so were going to jump on his pass." IF he was thinkin that IDK. It's amazing how some of you guys are jumpin on the mob mentality "the big shot must be wrong about what happened"

YES I THINK ITS WRONG TO JUMP ON A THREAD AND HIDE BEHIND A GUESS NAME AND MAKE ACCUSATIONS THAT THIS PERSON CHEATED OR WAS TAIL GATING.
JUST EXACTLY WHAT BIG SHOT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? I ONLY KNOW 2 AND
STACKER AND RICH S. neither one was FISHING THAT DAY!

620, I hope some day you do well in tourny's and win one and i hope i win one some day too . Infact i hope everyone wins one someday. Hopefull when that day comes for you no one rains on your parade or passes on information that is derrogatory or not true about you and instead enjoying the brief moment of glory you have to spend your last bit of energy with negative false information that someone thought they heard or heard from a friend who heard it from a friend who was in the back row of the audience watching the weight in
