Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | Today the 22nd of December, the Wolf river finally said enough is enough. She is tight. In past years the date for the countdown was april 1st. The last 3 years had dates from march 14th to the 21st and the 7th. Lets pick a different landing date. For 2013 we will use March 23rd. So, starting today, you get a nice even number of 90 days and a wake up to saturday the 23rd of march. Lets hope we are back in our boats by then. Have a great winter!

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | 1-4-13 The river is solid. There are few sleds running it now and there is some fishing taking place in new london. Hopefully we get a lot of snow to filler up. 77 and a wake up to March 23rd. Seems short doesn't it? Pitchers and catchers report february 14th.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | 1-14-13 The rains last week did take all the snow off the ice. At noon ish on saturday the temps hit freezing and now all the water that was on the ice has frozen. I think I might punch some holes off our docks on thursday and see what we got. I am thinking it should be good by weeks end. 68 and a wake up to march 23rd.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | 12" at Gills landing. Amazingly though the guys sledding the river are finding lots of open water up river. Only thing I can figure out is the current and river heighth being so low is doing it. Oh Well, Bago ice keeps shifting, 2 weeks to sturgeon stabbing. 53 and a wake up. Is that all? N.E.W. Sport show is in appleton this year. March 1-2-3rd. I will have Tuffy Boats there.

I can tell you this, the water is really low and if she thaws quickly, it will wash the ice right out. Up coming events, Appleton Boat show february 21-24, N.E.W. Member Posts: 15 | I agree Stacker that it won't be out by the 23rd. Looking ahead at the future forcast it's not looking good either:( We might be looking at the very end of March this year. I guess we got really spoiled last year when we were fishing in shorts at this time. I just hope we have a normal year with good water levels throughout the run and have a awsome spawn.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | Nope, the rain saved the jinxs my friend./ hahhahaahaa 11 days and a wake up. Remember, thats from fremont down. Went for a drive around the block this morn before work. Every single ditch and feeder creek is swarmed with standing water. They are still iced in but the water is a flowing. Got to the wolf and it is a mess. There is water running on top of the ice in places. Current on the top side. Not sure what the bottom side looks like. Gotta be rolling. The sides by us look like they are getting pushed. I will keep an eye on it and let you know as things happen. I think the ice will pop like a water ballon. It rained here from noon saturday till midnight sunday. It came down hard as well. Here are some pics for you. Member Posts: 15 | How's it looking Stacker???? Looking at the extended forcast I have a feeling it might not be ready to fish before Easter. This March is a killer I tell ya..... I just keep telling myself that it'll be good for the whole river system.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | I did some looking around yesterday. Here is what I found. There is water waiting to enter the system. everything is still full but these cold nights keep slowing it down. I did not drill holes because I think there are areas that will be extremly thin from the current flows. I am still sticking with the 23rd. One warm up and she will shatter and bust. Lets keep our fingers crossed. Red banks tourny april 6th will be the first on the river this year.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | In Fremont you can see a groove that is opening up on the cam. That is at Teds on the rock wall. That groove now extends down half way between the bridges. I am sure it will eat away more if the snow does not fill it in. It is almost raining here the snow is so fine and wet right now. This does not mean a boat can fit, its only 10 yards wide at best, but has to start somewhere. It does show how much current is out there.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | 4 days and a wake up, HOLD ON, there aint now way!! This cold at night and clouds during the day has slowed the roll boys. It is not making ice but it is hampering the thawing of run off that had the current rising. Fremont has a slot 10 yards wide opened up through town past the new brideg all the way gala area, then it stops! It just has to change.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | Shoulda' stuck with april 1st. We are now at +2 and counting. Lets see what happens this week. There is sizable current in the main river. It is stained and moving. I was out and also checked in with friends up and down the river, they all report the same. Abouta foot of ice by current. The old guys are saying that this is good because the ice being thick keeps the waater pressurized and is squirting it down stream. It will draw up lots of fish we have been loosing. It makes sense. Guess we will see. I will let you all know ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS day to day.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | + 5 days and counting. She is ugly boys. The slot from Fremont has opened all the way down to Fort Fremont. She is half the river wide at Gala Resort. Current coming up and pushing. Gills has a slot open up that was 14 thick just 5 days ago. Rise the level a bit and she will be breaking in peices. I will let ya know friday AM.

On the other hand we have rising water in new london and rain predicted for the weekend. Late weekend early week? +6 and counting
