Will we be on the mailing list like always or is this a new event? Partner and I are pretty pumped about this. Looking forward to it also.

First, let me say that I am all for the new changes. But, I have a few questions about how they are going to get the CRR thing to work. CRR works great for the low numbers that the AIM tournaments have, but how will it work for 300+? Are they going to buy 300 digital cameras and SD cards? Plus, 300 rulers? How long will it take to punch in 300 teams' cards at the end of the day? The biggest complaint about the Otter Street tournament in the past was that the payout sucked. The new numbers will attract alot of people, but if you go with the CRR format, you will lose enough people as well. This will bring the payout back down again. I'm not against the CRR format, but I am skeptical about how it is going to work on a larger scale. With all that said, my Dad and I are hoping to fish this tournament. I would really like to see the Otter Street tournament come back to what it was. I used to love fishing it.

The payout that was listed assumes how many boats entered?

Mark O. - We are meeting to discuss the tournament structure and cost of the CRR format. In addition the site fee they charge to run the tournament is astronomical. It very well may end up as bringing live fish in with the only changes including higher payout and open to the upper lakes. The partnership between Battle on Bago and Otter Street will continue to make this tournament back to what it was and more. We will have the final details next week and hope to send out registration forms in a couple weeks. Thanks for your input.

Why would they have to supply the cameras? I don't know a single person that doesn't own a digital camera. I think they could get a reasonable price on 300 rulers to hand out. And memory cards would be cheap, too. Part of the cost of doing business. And the CRR format requires you to record the lengths on a sheet. Your top X fish are used, and the pics are there for verification. It's not like they have to sort through every picture and determine the length, and then compile, at the weigh in.

Weigh-ins would go faster. Give up your record sheet and card to the marshall, and load your boat and park. Go wait in line for the stage appearance. Simple. Fast. Efficient.

I would say they should have a ruler with some unique marking on it, and must be able to see the whole fish, the mark, and the length to be a validated fish.

Shep they have to verify each sheet with the pictures. It is a cool idea but definetly not faster. Steve the city of Oshkosh in there infamous wisdom charges a large fee to hold an event in our public parks. It not good enough the people holding the events are bringing in a lot of people and a lot of money to the area. Now the discourage them by placing a site fee on the public parks.

Glenn,

Can you answer mrmodog's question? How many boats is the payout you posted based on?... 300? What is the max. number of boats you will allow to be entered?... 300?

Not faster than putting fish from the livewell into a transport bag, carrying that bag to the holding tanks, going to the stage to weigh, talk, hold for pictures, back to the holding tanks, and then you're done?

CRR would be just as fast, or faster, and MUCH better for the fish. Problem is this is a team event, and I think there might be one or two teams that would figure out a way to cheat.

As for the fees? Don't you know they are doing you a favor letting you bring all these anglers together in one place? I'm surprised they haven't figured out how to get a portion of the beer and food tab.

The Payout is based on 300 boats. We are planning to have the registration forms out in the next couple of weeks with March 1st being the first day to send in registrations. The FIRST 300 boats will be guarantied a tournament spot, and the committee will decide to include more if for example 312 registrations are sent in 3/1.

There have been some changes within the AIM organization, in addition to them wanting to charge $25,000 to run the tournament, we felt that this year we will run a conventional tournament weighing in the fish. The tournament will be open to the Upper Lake System and the payout will still be $105,000. We will also have prizes from 66th to 100th with product prizes from our sponsors Frabill, Mercury, Lund.

We are working hard on getting the final details put together so it's done right the first time, and also both organizations are trying to plan Ice Fishing Tournaments at the same time. I'll post a link to the registration form once completed and other's will be sent out to tournament participants the past 3 years of Otter Street.

whats wrong with 200 boats. 250 is pushing it now days. 300 will never happen again. it just cost to much for fuel and everthing else. people cant afford it now days. just be happy with 200 boats

I was at Jerry's the other day and was told the total so far was in the 190's. Sure, fuel prices are up but with 2 people splitting 400 bucks for entry and 100 apiece for gas (or a little more)it really isn't that bad for a two day tourney. I understand the economy as well as the next guy but if you get serious enough and look at the new pauout, it's not such a bad deal. If they have about 200 now I think 250 is realistic. I wish them luck.

Regarding the 6 fish in the box limit(#13)...is that a DNR rule or a Battle on Bago Rule?

The threat of cancellation chased me and a couple other teams away. If you need to make reservations and schedule vacation time to participate you don't want the rug pulled out that late in the game.

They feel pretty confident from speaking with a couple friends in the Otter Street Club. Six fish limit is as per state law for tourneys after a certain date in the beginning of June when water temps start to go way up. Larry, your 3 teams will get them that much closer to making sure it happens. I will see if I can get a current number on entries.
