Member Posts: 12 Location: Kingston, Ontario | Hi, My name is David Delcloo and I use the Net Name - Superdad. First time post to this board, always looking for more info on Walleye fishing. I fish - what some would call the 'Walleye Capital of the World' the Bay of Quinte in Ontario Canada. It's a walleye factory. We are connected to Lake Ontario and the BIG walleyes spend their year out there and venture back to the Bay in the fall and spend the winter getting ready for the spawn in April. I have posted a photo album - Superdad's Album. I've put a small sampling of some of the fish we've had in the past couple of years. We are fortunate in our location as the weather allows the fishing to continue til ice up, this year the boat fishing was over on January 4th with people picking up many fish all over the 9 lbs mark. Now the hard-water season is on and the ice is 6 - 8 inches and people are out there chipping and chopping and getting some pretty nice fish. We have a slot limit, that allows you to keep four fish, three under 18.9 inches and one over 25.0 inches. Anything between goes back. That limit appears to be paying results as 2003 was the best year in the last fiftenn. Better run before this becomes a book.

Member Posts: 714 | Welcome aboard Dave. We don't get alot of reports coming across here from up there where you are. Sounds like you really have it tough! You might find yourself in a debate or two from some of the guys here if you keep calling Quinte the "walleye capital" though. But what the heck, thats what fishermen do. Look forward to hearing some new perspectives on fishing our favorite gamefish. P.S. If you want to meet alot of the guys real quick, tell them you are a Minnesota Vikings fan! They'll love you, at least I will, since I'm the only one on this board that is! Edited by JLDII 1/17/2004 10:34 AM

That being, very few times during any of the 4 seasons when things really get tough fishing wise. On Saginaw Bay where I live and charter, we seem to have lag periods when the walleyes seem either to dissapear or go entirely off the feed for periods of time. I'm thinking sheer biomass numbers have a certain bearing on this phenomina. Enjoy your membership here. These guys all seem to be regular Joe's and have a wealth of fishing knowledge. Welcome Dave. Member Posts: 73 Location: NW Illinois | Welcome aboard Superdad. I'm fairly new here too, but have picked up a lot of new ideas and plan to keep hangin' around! JLDII, I may be opening myself up for trouble, but I have been a Viking fan for over 30 years. You're not alone anymore! Wait till next year! It is as tough being a Vike fan here in Bear country as in Cheese land, but that is part of the fun for me! Rooster Edited by Rooster 1/17/2004 11:19 AM

Member Posts: 874 Location: Neenah, WI | Welcome aboard Superdad and greetings from Lake Winnabago. As a truck driver I've been through your area several times on my way to that Province to your East. We won't mention the name due some unpleasant experiences there. When I see all that walleye water from the 401 my mind really starts to work overtime thinking about all those nice fish. If I had the time you can bet I would mooch my way aboard your boat for a chance to hook up with some of those fish in your pictures. Good luck to ya'. You'll find the folks here are both friendly and helpful.

Member Posts: 12 Location: Kingston, Ontario | Thanks to all for the kind words of welcome. Yes, there is always the questions of the REAL ' Walleye Capital of the World' but everyone can make the claim - it's a tourist thing. We are very fortunate that we are able to fish from opening day, 1st Sat in May until iceup(this year as mentioned Jan 4th) The Bay of Quinte is a neat piece of water attaching itself to LAke Ontario and heading north west for about ten miles and then makes a sharp left turn for another forty miles. I've been fishing here for over 18 years and haven't seen at least 65% of the rest of the water. Here's a map of what it looks like: http://www.quintefishing.com/click_anywhere_on_map.htm I have a place on Hay Bay, you can see it on the map. The ice fishing is really starting again as the first ice melted and has had to refreeze, reports are promising. I'll post what I do when I ice fish in a week or so. Once again Thanks for the kind words. PS. I used to be a Vikings' fan until I saw them play the Bucs in Tampa and now pull for the ex-Superbowl winners.

Member Posts: 714 | Say, Superdad, How about you modifying that map a little and show us which 35% you have been fishing, and a few of us would be glad to come up and beat the daylights out of those areas for you! Like I said in my original post, you sure have it tough! Nice fish! The Vikings still have room on the band wagon if you want to jump on.....

Member Posts: 34 Location: Theresa, NY | Welcome Superdad! Finally, another person from my neck of the woods. I used to fish out of Pickeral Park and then a few years at Perfect View Lodge. Havent fished there is five or six years. Finally bought a new boat last year and hope to get back to the launch in DeSoronto this year, I am located in the states, just across the TI Bridge. All reports are that fishing is picking up again in your area, fishing is not badin our area either between Lake Ontario and our part of the St Lawrence River, catching walleye again up and down the river,

Member Posts: 714 | Say Superdad, I've heard for many years that you have one of the last true gems of water to fish for trophy fish up there, but was wondering if you could outline for me (us) what styles of fishing is best up there and when you do it. More or less, a brief walk thru of what a fishing year is up on the Bay. I remember the first time I ever heard of the Bay of Quinte many years ago in an In-Fisherman story by either Al or Ron Lindner. Have wondered about it many times since then. Thanks in advance.

Member Posts: 29 Location: Ontario, Canada | Welcome Superdad, like myself I'm fairly new on the board but have enjoyed it tremendously. Being from Cornwall and having lived in Kingston for five years, I was introduced to the Bay what a fishery. Been going ever since, trying all the different cottages around (Big Island, Pickeral Park, Merlins, etc...)the walleye fishing is great and the perch bite isn't that bad also. Boogie Poisson On !
