I have seen boxes and boxes of baits in the backs of the trucks at Walleye events across the country, and came to the conclusion walleye anglers are as obsessed with buying lures as any other breed of fisherman. How many do you have in your tackle boxes, and what is the single style and color crankbait you have in greatest number?

300? Maybe 400. I own more number 5 blue/silver shad raps than anything else. Probably 8 or 10 of those alone.

I have close to 700 cranks. It is a toss up between Deep JR thundersticks, and walley divers but the nod probably goes to the DJ's. I have between 6 and 10 different colors of each lure and have 4 to 8 lures of each color. I try to have at least 6 of every color of my go to baits. I also have about 15 different styles of cranks, everything for deep divers to shallow runners.

I must be nuts because I keep buying more. Everytime something new comes out I have to get it. I must be obsessed or stupid, at least thats what my wife thinks. I do agree though, walleye fisherman probably have more cranks than any other fisherman out there.

I have no idea for sure, but I would guess around 150. Most dominate baits are Rougue's, Thundersticks, and Hot-n-tot's.

Ok sounds like its time for a swap? I have a few hundred too many also, I really think that number 5 shad rap is the ticket though! Of course I don't have enough of them, All those large Reef runners and Matzuos are taking up too much space!
Good Luck

Well I don't want to count, but I have 47 Plano 3700's stuffed full. Well over 2000 baits. Mostly Thundersticks,Raps,ReefRunners,Walleye divers,Rouges and Bombers. Then again I have well over 2000 spinner blades and 100,000 beads. Oh my the fishin room is like a takle store! People that come over and see the rods and reel in the rafters above my boat cant understand what I need all that for! I need atleast 4 of every combo! Just the trolling combos alone what with leadcore and superlines and regular combos. I have had the talk with the wife, should something happen to me, e-bay and freinds will be happy to get their hands on this stuff!

It's kinda funny how walleye fishing has evolved into a endless array of opportunities. At one time, walleye fishermen were one method pete's...lindy rigs and jigs (fishing publications perpetuated this). Now (and actually it has been in the last 10 years or so), you have a HUGE variety of lures aimed at the walleye fishermen...probably bass fishing can be the reason or the influence on this. Either way, I say "Yeah Baby"!!

So, how many do I have? Three totes FULL! Not sure of the number? Jon

I was asked by my accountant to count them last year. The number is embarassing as I had to say it to my accountant out loud in front of my wife. You can imagine the look I got when she heard "3800 plus"....and I think I bought another 200-300 after that.

This is a disease that there is no cure for. And it's gonna get worse. With the new Deep Nitro Shiners and Winning Streak I need, I can add another 200 to that number. Just got my glass shad raps the other day, so I don't have to worry about them.

As for which lures make up the most of this stock, I'd say the old Storm Thundersticks are 20-25% of it....DJ's, DAJ's, AJ's, and J's. Now I could use some Baby's, if someone is willing to make a trade.

OH MY GOD, your probably not going to believe me on this one. I'd say at the peak of my guiding charter carrier, when I was fishing for all the Salmo and Steelhead/Trout species in the rivers out of my drift boat, along with the river bass and walleyes out of my sled, I had close to 3,000 cranks. I have since shed the many boxes of Wiggle Warts/Magnum Wiggle Warts/Flat Warts/Pee Wee Warts/Thundersticks Jr.s/Hot Shots/Quick Fish/ U-20 Faltfish/Tadpollys/Hot Lips/Ping-A-Tees and 1/2 ounce Hot-N-Tots. Oh ya, had a box with about 150 home made spinners for river kings as well.

Now, I'd say I down to about 1,000 cranks. Mostly 1/4 ounce Tots, old style. Rattle Tots, old style. And am quickly aquiring a hefty collection of Winning Streaks. Still keep a small stash of T-Stick Jr's, and 1/2 ounce tots for the week long stint I do in the fall for Kings out of the sled.

Don't even ask how many lead headed jigs I have. Lets just say it takes two grown men to carry the tote bag.

Okay Bry,

spill your guts. how do you "find" over 1,000 cranks in various rivers. I'm signing in disguise because I'm too embarassed to sign in with my reg. name. I too belong to LBA (lure buyers annomonous) and me thinks most of you are wimps when it comes to buying. I have more lures stashed away than most of you have total. ever go to a tournament and loose 2-3 dozen in one day? don't want to be caught short!

As a side note, anyone see the Walleye Insider and the article about Keith K and his storage draweres for the truck? What a great idea, now I hope that some thief doesn't read the article and set him up for a theft. I don't think I would have advertised that to the world. Too many crooks out there.

4, just kidding.......probably 500.......maybe 600......lol... maybe 700.
Not really sure but I know eveytime I go to BPS thewife says, are you sure you don't already have 2 of those! And usually I do!
Favorite cranks.......Hot and Tots for Saginaw Bay... Deep Reef Runners for Erie....Surprise here (don't tell anyone my secret) but a Stamina 2 1/2" shallow runner shad (in orange) on my local resevoir, absolutely outfishes anyother crank I've ever tried here, run it just outside the cane in 3 ft. of water in the spring I CAN'T WAIT! I WANT MY BOAT BACK!

Don't anybody start laughing now, but I might have about 40. Mostly Rapala's, Reefrunners, and a few Wally divers. You can just about double that number when you add in all the smallmouth stuff I use, which is mostly Rattl' Raps, and few other things. I have about 2500 spinner blades though if that makes a difference.

Now you all know why I don't troll cranks much. It would cost me a fortune to get started!

I have a funny story for you all. When I got into tourney fishing the MWC Spring Valley was the first stop for me. I drive over to my partners house (Blaine Hornes) with all my gear. It was early in the morning and I was extremly tired. All my stuff was already loaded in the truck. At this point I thought I had a nice lot of tackle. We start loading his stuff in and I am staring to wonder what is in all the huge rubbermaid bins. After the rubbermaids came the jig boxes and a soft bag full of stuff. I was thinking all his tackle was in the jig boxes and the soft bag. Once at the hotel we unloaded all the stuff and we were ready to start loading up the boat. I opened up the soft bag and was stunned at how many cranks he had! The guy can pack more baits in one plano box than anyone I know. Then he started to open un the rubermaid containers and never have I ever felt so embarrased. I looked down at my little pile of tackle and laughed. He gave me a smile and we went fishing. I am sure he would give Jerry a run for his money. Since then my amount of tackle has increased 300 fold. It is definately an addiction. I have not counted the number in a long time but has to be around the 1200 mark. They are hidden in all different places so my wife never sees them all at the same time.

I HAD around 500-600 cranks. Last year, I was on my way, boat in tow, to Appleton to meet my boss. I stopped in Fond du Lac for breakfast, and continued on my way. I got there a bit early, and while waiting for him to show up, I got out of the truck, and started to admire my new boat. I was looking inside, andd got a funny feeling that something didn't look right. Than a sick feeling came over me as I realized that my big crankbait bag was not there. I called the wife and made her go out to the garage to see if I had left it there, and only thought I put it in the boat. No such luck. The only bag I put in the boat, and it was gone! Somebody must have lifted it at the restaurant.

Right now, I am back up to around 200. I'll get there, but what really hurts is they were all the good baits that worked, most from 10 years ago and more. Gonna be a long time before I have the confidence in all my new baits that I had in them.

Shep,

What did the insurance company do for you? Maybe we can all learn from your bad experience.

Sunshine.

Heres what they did for me. I was asked by our local Steelheader club to come give a seminar about river walleye fishing at our area civic center. To give examples I brought along my tote bag of about 3,000 jigs all sizes, tubes, fuzzies and assorted grubs. While I was at the front getting the table ready, somebody in the back grabed my tote bag and took off. Oh ya, they also stold my parka lining from my quad duck hunting parka, Size 56, so just who the hell could wear it besides a monster like me is a wonderment. Anyway, I turned in the stuff to the insurance. They said being it wasn't stollen from my yard/property it wasn't covered. Nor was it from the civic center.

One more story. In the middle of my Salmon fishing addiction, I bought 3 of those clear vinal storage pouches. The ones that hang like a sheet and keep all your spoons and J-Plugs separated in clear view for easy selection and removal. Each pouch holds about 50 or so items. When I bought my new CC-191 Sea Nymph Center Counsol back in 83, they looked really professional hanging from that counsol. So I left them hanging there for all the world to see just how professional I was. Well, on the way home while going 70MPH down the freeway they all blew out of the boat on the highway. And I felt like a professional dumb A$$ when I got home. Oh ya, they wer'nt covered either.

As I only had this boat for a couple of weeks, I hadn't switched over my insurance to my new carrier. I was still in the process of getting quotes for the new boat. I had switched the rider from my homeowner's policy to the new boat, but it didn't cover squat.

Rick, thanks for the offer, but I couldn't accept your baits. You'll eventually need them. I've learned a valuable lesson.
