My manager and I are sitting down over the next couple of weeks to discuss what crank baits should be added to our line-up for 05.

If you have any suggestions on what Gander should have that we don't, please add what you'd like to see. If there was a crank that we don't carry any longer, but you'd like to see it again, please add it.

Thanks,

GMG

I guess my question is, how universal does Gander get in it's orderings. Meaning, does the gander store near me, make bulk lure or component orders for pretty much the same items as the store you work at? Are they connected at all in this fasion? I really think being area/store specific to fishermens needs, is the best most profitable course to take for any of the outlets. But also realize that the "BULK" buying potential and savings may be lost when doing it this way.

John - A month back, I was looking to buy a bunch of Manns Stretch 20+. I talked to your manager (I think) and he told me that it was discontinued, due to low sales. That is a great lure for the Great Lakes. My other suggestion would be to get a whole isle of Reef Runner colors. See Bob's in GB for what I mean. Thanks for allowing us to have some input and hope to see you sleeping in the GM tents soon!

Yup the Mann's was discontinued, I don't know the reason...(Tall kid, kinda looks like a young Lerch?).

We have a huge amount of RR's, nobody took the time to merchandise them this year. That will change for next season. I believe after all is said and done, we'll have 4-8' of nothing but Reef Runners.

Most Gander's can and do order for the stuff they sell the most of. Example.....My Gander might sell 40 different kinds of musky baits where as the new Houston Tx store wont have any. All stores have the ability to order what's in the system, it's just up to the manager as to what to get. If enough guys show interest in something, we'll order it.

With the new store hours until 10pm every night, you just might find me in a shack or two taking a snoozer! hahahaaaa

John,

No cat naps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with the harness components, you need to sell in larger quantities.
I agree with Lund Dude about the R.R, you have seen me shop at your store.lol
If I may offer a suggestion... I would put out a in store survey on paper or hae a worker conduct it and ask the people what they want.

See ya later.

Which Gander are you at? If your in the North Central Wisconsin area, You have to carry the full line of Kabooms, including the shallow runner and ALL the Nitro's and Winning Streaks, Little Rippers are a must have, Of course a better selection of Normark Shad raps than Fleet has would be great but don't go broke unless you can compete with the price. Don't overlook the Matzo's and Normarks Glass Raps and don't skimp on them either! Get ahead of the competition on color selection make sure you have them all! I don't rep any of them but really find that I would rather buy from the guy who has the best selection not just the store that carries more firetiger than the others, profit margins are low in hardware right? so keep the accessories near them, such as plannerboards, most popular trolling lines, snaps, clips and the bible. I hate looking all over the store for something.
Good Luck

From one store to the next,it all seems like more of the same. Why not get some customs colors made.Gander can afford bulk prices and customs would draw a lot of folks to the store.Let's use Wally Divers as an example. The standard Pradco intentory is available almost anywhere, but Mill's F/F has colors made for them.I live in Illinois but all of my Wally Divers are bought in Oshkosh or FonduLac.We're talking quite a few and I not be the only one.I know several others who make "crankbait runs" to Mill's F/F.As recently as five years ago,Gander had custom color Wally Divers.I think Gander quit selling them when the minimum order went from 300 to 600 per bait. I saw Green Bay Packer colored Shad Raps at F/F so even Normark will make customs. You know what baits sell in your area. Why not handle some Gander Exclusives?

Just a note, the Dave's Ka-Boom Nitro Shinner has been renamed the Deep Ka-Boom Shinner. You will see the Nitro name phased out by the end of 2005. The baits he produces are the Winning Streak, Deep KA-BOOM Shinner and the new Shallow KA-BOOM Shinner. These are awsome baits and work very well. They are also 100%made in the USA.

The Appleton Gander has a large amount of these in stock now. I pulled them this past year on Winnebago and they produced great results, you need to check them out.

Yep - more spinner components...specifically I would like to request that the Saginaw store restock the #4 and #5 Northland spinner blades that have been sold out SINCE LAST JUNE!

And keep stocking the Merc Opti oil and Seafoam.

i've been to the gander mountain near me(novi, mi.)twice. they stock mostly empty peg board hooks. i've never been able to catch fish with those so i don't shop there any more. the sad part about it is, there was a real nice mom and pop store nearby. it was a satalite for their main store. they shut it down because they thought g. m. would be too much compitition. if they only knew...

Ok....I see alot of requests for more spinner components.......brands and sizes would be a big help.

We're going to expand on our selection of Thundersticks, I'll add kaboom's to the list and glass Reef Runners. The Custom colored baits is a great suggestion, we have a decent selection of Gander Exclusives in Musky, but not too much for walleye...I'll ask about that too.

How about soft plastics? Anything? I know the Gulp leeches were popular this season.

You do not need Storm AJ's if you're getting Dave's Shallow Shiner Many of us will not buy the new storms and refer to the old when using them. I'll assume that Dave's baits will be as good or better than the old.

A good supply of Berkley power minnows in all colors w/walleye scent.
A good supply of Berkley power worms in all colors w/walleye scent.

For Bass...... Senko's, Senko's and more Senko's
All necessary ingredients for drop shotting.

I was at the store last Thursday and was disappointed not to see Power Pro in the bright yellow, all you had was moss green.

I visit a couple of your stores often, and I think you carry a good selection not only of crankbaits, but most fising products. The problem I see is that when a product gets hot, you seem to run out quickly and the local store isn't able to get it in quickly enough. I think Gander Mountain should give more local controll to the ordering in each individual store. You have some very good people in the stores, and they know what products are in demand at that particular location. Give them the ability to respond quickly, and get the high demand products in that people are looking for.

I love Gander Mountain and I hope you are very successful.

Great suggestions guys, thanks much. I noted everything asked for and will have the list with me. I, like Dennis, wish we had more walleye scented PB, so I made sure to put that high on the list.

Here's another question for you. When you guys go to any store to shop, do you perfer to have everything you need in one area or don't you mind walking around looking? My big idea for next season is to keep everything Walleye related in one area, everything Musky specific in its area...etc. I see too many guys wandering around with blank expressions (or pissed off expressions) looking for stuff. When I look for my walleye gear, I want everything walleye related at my fingertips, I don't want to spend 3 hours looking for stuff. Last season we had soft plastics in the front of the dept and and all the jigs in tha back....doesn't make sense to me.

Please don't mess with the layout! I know where everything is now, I don't want to have to re-learn the location of all the items. How about the new Rapala cranks for this year with the dressed treble on the back? I'm sure you'll have those. Keep up the good selection of rods through the various price ranges.

I think the easiest change, that would bennefit us all, would be to carry the colors, from lets say Canada,or the Rapala Saltwater ones.I pick up baits from all over the country, that are not available in this area....hafe

GMG,

I thinK the Gander in Columbus (west) does a pretty good job in stocking a variety of cranks (as well as rods/reels...) for the area. As was noted in an earlier post, sometimes a bait gets "hot", and even if you ask, it can be weeks or even months before it is stocked again. Last spring it was the Glass HJs.
