Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Hey guys, Now that winter is finally setting in and some of us will start to go crazy, how about meeting in the chat room from time to time? There are some real knowledgeable fishers here on WF that we all can learn from. When would be a good time and what day(s) if any are interested? Zach or Steve, what are your thoughts on this?

Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Jon, Jerry and Dan, Now that's a threesome that would make the chatroom an awesome experience. Tuesdays at 7ish sounds great to me. Jerry you need to get hooked up, wouldn't be the same without you. I'm sure that Zach or Steve can help out with their knowledge. We need ya’ buddy. Dan, it's over the dam, apology accepted. Let’s spread the wealth of knowledge. Anyone else have any suggestions? We have 4, let’s get more!

Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Dan, If I'm hearing you right, You'd like a theme for our discussions. I have no problem with this.............. any ideas? Techniques, locations, patterns? What say you? Zach and Steve, you out there? What are your thoughts? Glad to see Dave Storm of KABOOM Baits on board! Sounds like we have enough interest already to run with it.

Member Posts: 1406 | I think the first couple should be a bit informal so we can talk about possible organized chat with guest speakers! I would love to have Dave Storm on board for an hour at a specific time for questions just about his products. If Dave would welcome that as a guest speaker, I know Steve and Zach might be able to capitalize on that with a bit of promotion, I know I have enough questions to keep him typing all night myself! Good Luck Tyee

![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Dennis. I was just on the chat site and seen that you can actually copy the chat on CD disc, how cool is that. That makes the idea of a topic/subject even more appealing. Heres a few thoughts on that idea. All of us are decent fishermen and have probably used just about every technique out there to catch walleyes. But every one of us has strong points when it comes to walleye/muskie/whatever/ fishing. This may be because that's the type of fishing we do most, or for some reason (it just seems to click) or all come together for us when we're using that particular technique. I believe mine is anchoring and quarter casting rivers with jigs. In my 15 years of guiding on Michigan rivers for Salmon and Steelheads, I've learned to read water current and pick out the places fish hold during different times of the year, as well as during different water and weather conditions. I've also developed an all around feel for this technique, and on the average, I seem to do better than most even when fishing behind somebody on used water. Now, I'm not trying to brag here, just state that we all have a certain fishing nitch that we've paid special attention to, learned little tricks from, and can share with the others if the that topic is the discussion point. I'd also like to see the topic "WHY" get kicked around. Example. A cold front comes in. The fish are all on the bottom dug into the mud. We all know that, but WHY? Pick things apart that we all know happens, but their reasons are unclear. I'm trolling 3.5 and catching fish. Your trolling 3.2 and catching squat. Now this quandary at first may seem easy to answer. But, not unless your thinking outside the box. Otherwise, the resolved solution to this problem never gets totally solved. And these are the reasons fishing keeps it's hold on most. Guest speakers are nice, but actualy limited in their all around knowledge and ability to answer everyones questions given the variables on each different body of water. All of us together posess more knowledge and problem solving answers than 10 guest speakers combined. I'd like to see chat's between us regular joe's that really teaches, makes you think and is worth saving on disc. My 2 cents. Edited by walleye express 12/16/2004 4:58 PM

Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Tyee and Dan both have great ideas. If I was playing mediator here (which I am not) I'd say let's do both. The first chat could be THIS discussion. Coming up with a plan of attack for down the road could be the topic. For me, there are times when I just like BS'ing with friends and letting the discussion move naturally like we're talking over a beer. Other times I'd like to know that one night we have Dave Storm talking about KABOOM, another night Dan talking about quartering, and so on........ Both work for me. If I recall correctly (help me with my memory Dan) this is how the "other side (different website) got started with the Wednesday chats. It was just a bunch of guys and gals getting together to chat. It also looks like the WC chat site is fading with less and less participation. I'd hate to see a manufacturer that sponsors me being the "keynote" at my request and only having 4 people show up. That would put egg on all of our collective faces. Ideas?

![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | I agree, and think I know why WC chats are suffering. When the absolute topic is set, it may indeed turn some people off to showing up, or hold no interest because it's not what or how they like to fish. Others may be intimidated simply because the speaker is a big name, and they don't want to be perceived as asking a "Stupid" question. I would not be disappointed if we ourselves had only a hand full of participants at our chats. As that small number would get to interact better with each other in the long run, and share those little tips that really make a difference. Unless the fishing subject was completely foreign to you, really consider how much you've ever genuinely learned from a guest speaker chat on techniques, riggings and formulas. And if we were to talk about quarter casting, I would not want to be billed as the guest speaker, but simply the topic starter. I myself, would like to come away with a tidbit or two on the subject, that I could try and use on my own future trips on the river. And only when everyone feels involved in the subject, can and does this happen. Put these 2 cents on top of the other two. ![]() Edited by walleye express 12/16/2004 9:24 AM

Member Posts: 88 Location: Oklahoma | OK OK OK...I will visit the chat and stay in the background....I would really just like to throw in my two cents worth on subjects that interest me. Any of you who want to know more about Dave's KA-BOOM!s can e-mail me. I am interested in hearing about fishing subjects that involve conditions, techinques, colors of baits, size of fish at certain times of the year and also great fish stories. I don't see what's wrong with exchanging great fish stories on chat sites. Sometimes a good story and photo really picks me up and helps me associate with a person. I do not want toget into a special chat about me unless the moderators ask me to come. That's the sucky part of being a manufacturer of fishing products. It is hard to "become" comfortable chatting with guys and gals on chats without people thinking I'm there to sell my product. I really hate that. But....it happens, as it has on other sites. Hey, guys...I'm just a regular Joe-Blow. Just wanting to have some contacts and input from people. I have a lot to learn about techiques used up in your neck of the woods...honestly, I am primarily a bass fisherman being from Oklahoma, so the more I learn about walleye fishing the better man I'll be! ![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Now, Dave. You know I/we know, that there isn't many (if any) who could/would talk about the lure manufacturing histories, strategies and processes like you could. Few have the historical perspective, consider customer interests and needs, or keep your finger on the pulses of specific area's and specific fishing conditions, as you and your whole family had and have over the years in this category. And being a subject apart from, yet related to fishing, it would have all my modest support as a subject/topic, and you as the invited, coveted "Guest Speaker". ![]() ![]() Edited by walleye express 12/16/2004 11:50 AM

Member Posts: 701 Location: upper michigan | i like the idea of open chat as well as topic or guest speaker. Now as this sight has many knowledgeable anglers maybe we can have a guest speaker chosen out of the group everyother week and open chat on the alternate weeks just a thought.

Member Posts: 194 Location: Northern Illinois | From what I am reading, why not allow for those open forum chats amongst the guys & gals 2-3 times per month. Drilling into those details that made the difference, or how the particiapnts want to shape that discussion. So that everyone learns, regardless of who kicks off as a topic starter. With an idea that maybe 1 night per month, the goal is a guest speaker. And that topic, and potential speaker, come out of those free flowing discussions? It may require a little work on short notice, but spread the load based upon the topic and who has that sponsorhip and amongst active participants etc. Just thinking as they talk -5 degrees in Chicago this Sunday!
