Member Posts: 514 Location: Darboy USA | Hey Guys, Everyone has their favorite types of cranks for Bago at certain times of year, wondering what the rest of you have for a top 5 MUST have on Bago. Here are my top 5 for almost anytime of year: 1) Rapala Glass Rap #7 Perch 2) Wally Diver Gold/Black or Silver/Black 3) Rapala Shad Rap #7 Firetiger or Bass 4) Dave's Ka-Boom Purple/Red Lip or Chrome 5) T-Stick Old Version in Purple/Clear Anyone else care to add? I'm trying to get stocked up this winter with more cranks since Santa was good to me with gift cards!

Member Posts: 1656 | Been biting my tongue on this one.............BUT..... I'm not convinced on the Nitro Shiners. Honestly I would say it could have been one of the worst performing lures I ran on 'Bago this last summer. Sorry if it sounds rude. But let's let up a little on the next greatest bait since sliced bread routine. Obvioulsy there are a few here that are "prostaff" and feel it's prudent to jam this advertising in front of everyone. I'll try 'em again this year......but it they don't work...they'll be forsale or in the garbage along with all the "great" Lipp Rippers I purchased.

Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Jason, You're correct that I and other WFers are on the Pro Staff for Dave's Lures. Speaking for myself, I only associate myself with companies that I totally believe in and produce products that I feel I can honestly support and endorse. Dave's Lures falls under this category. I used them the entire season on various lakes under all kinds of conditions. As Lund Dude indicated, (a co-angler who later became a friend) many people who fished with me this season saw their effectiveness. I think you will be happy if/when you do give them another try this coming season. I would also be more than happy to have you come along one day to witness first hand their effectiveness on "bago". I really believe that they are better than the “originals” that they are replacing in my tackle box. As a guide and tournament fisherman it's anti-productive and against my personnel ethics to use and/or endorse marginal equipment. Frankly, I was on the Pro-Staff for awhile before I started to spread the word about this lure company. That's how I operate with all my sponsors. I will not praise or in anyway endorse a product that I do not feel total confidence with and have not had a time using. (You’d be surprised about how many companies I have voluntarily stopped representing because I did not have confidence using their product). Give them another try. If you still feel that you’re unhappy with them, I’ll personally buy them off you.

Member Posts: 514 Location: Darboy USA | Thanks for all the honest answers guys. Dennis/Jon- What colors have you found to be the best on Bago day in and day out. I'd like to get a few of each color, but don't have that much cash to spend. Would like to first get a few of the best colors and go from there. Thanks again for all the input.

Member Posts: 1656 | Sunshine, The key word you used is "Confidence". Perhaps sour grapes on my part. I will admitt, I'm a fan of Reef Runner. I'll give them a try again.....Hopefully I won't be looking you up to buy 'em. BTW, any word on dive curves for the Nitro shiners?

Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Bob, If that WAS the case...............the boat would be mighty full ![]() ![]() ![]() I hope that my previous post wasn’t misconstrued. I wasn't really feeling insulted or felt that my integrity was being challenged. I was just trying to give my insights on how/why I recommend products. People seem to NOT question suggestions or endorsements when we are not sponsored by a company BUT put a red flag when we are. I have no problem with that, it's human nature. we live in a buyer beware society.

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | I doubt anyone took your post for anything other than what you intended. I can completely understand Jayman's position; there is a very popular fishing website based in MN that shills any crappy prodcut that buys advertising on their site. Some skepticism is always warranted. If you read the various fishing boards enough, you learn to separate the honest reviews from the whoring pretty quickly. I continue to return to this board because of the honest feedback.

Member Posts: 265 Location: Combined Locks, WI | Jayman, I also am on the Dave's Pro Staff, however in 2004 I was in no part connected with Dave's Baits. I ran the Deep Ka-Boom Shinner (formerly Nitro Shinner) much of the year and had outstanding success. I came to believe in the lure and at that point contacted Dave about an opportunity on the Pro Staff. I also am like Sunshine, I will not affiliate myself with companies and/or products that I do not believe in. Please give them a try again, and I will also offer, if you would like to go and gain some confidence in the baits please contact me. I would be more than happy to take you out on the water for a day. Heck maybe we would even develop a friendship. I didn't mean my post to be an advertisment I was just trying to be funny. I will admit my favorite lure was the Deep Ka-Boom and then probably the Tail Dancer followed by the old Storm original T-sticks. Matzuos, Hot n tots, and Winning Streaks also did well. Mr. Darboy, My colors of choice for the Deep Ka-Boom Shinner would be: #09 Metallic Rainbow Trout, #30 Green Scale Rid Lip, #31 Blue Scale Red Lip, #91 purple prism, and custom color #10 Metallic Brown Trout (Rosemary). But my all time favorite under bright bluebird sunny skies is hands down the #93 silver prism blue back with an orange belly. No more advertisements just the honest truth in my opinion. Dennis and Jon you are exactly right the kaboom deep shiner was the best lure on baggo last year. The biggest hint I can give to anybody is the glow green sqiggles! You can get them at the gander in sheboygan. With stainded water or cloudy days this is the hottest color. This color got my buddy a 8 and a 5 while fun fishing on day one of the walleye weekend.

Member Posts: 1406 | You guys are doing justice to that brand so I'll chime in with my 2nd choice which only came off the pole all season to retie, It was the.........................shhhhh not too loud, WHITE GLASS RAP!!!!!!! #4 140 back and a #5 at various depths. A close third was a yo-zuri in a certain color, otherwise there were a lot of Purple Prizm baits chasin' my boat this past season! Good Luck and Happy spending! I never had to switch up to harnesses all year they just kept bitting! Tyee

Member Posts: 88 Location: Oklahoma | Good to hear some of you are having success with my lures. If someone has success using any bait whatsover, why not allow them to sing their praises if someone asks them for their opinion?! I believe that the posts in question were answering a question about what their most productive brand and color of bait for Winnebago is. I myself am happy that members of my team are honest and speak about their experiences using anyone's crankbaits mine or another's, or jigs or crawlers lived bait or what! If I was asked what MY favorite crankbait is, it would NOT be one of my own, by the way! I will admit, their are others out there (old or new) that are very productive fish catchers. My all time is a Wiggle Wart V38, and will always be. We all have an opinion, and use what works for us. If asked, I would not want to be afraid to answer it with all honesty in fear of being lambasted with criticism. Thank you WF for allowing us to be honest and keeping this forum away from quibbling and accusitory remarks.

Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | No problem Brad, If no one else jumps on your offer I'd luv to take them off your hands. Feel free to email me with the specifics and we can work out the details. Dave, Thanks for chiming in. I'm sure that everyone will agree that it's nice to see manufacturers and fishing industry reps monitoring this site. Especially those willing to post from time to time with additional information, suggestions and guidance. [email protected] Edited by Sunshine 1/6/2005 12:01 PM

Member Posts: 1656 | Okay, didn't mean to question anybody's integrity. But there have been more than just this thread regarding crankbaits....and it seems to be a "website consenous" that if it's not one of Dave's lures, it's junk. If we follow along these lines...then we might as well say that all boats but Tuffy's are junk....since they are a major sponsor of Walleye First. I don't agree with that philosophy and only pointed out my failures with the baits. I appreciate the fact that you guys are representing lures for Dave. And Dave, I think you got some good people to represent your lures. But, let's not discount other products. Many of us own several cranks and they all aren't one brand. As for people offering to take me out......I think I need to pick on some other products. ![]() Oh and Dennis, thanks for the Dive curve info. Edited by Jayman 1/6/2005 12:18 PM

Location: WI | Hey Tyee, the fish must have gotten us mixed up once or twice, I always fished the white glass and purple prizm, one difference, my white glass was a #7 at 60 feet. always took a fish with the white glass.

Member Posts: 88 Location: Oklahoma | No discounting of other crankbaits intended, Jayman. I am not a sponsor of any web site, either, including this one. My intention by having Pro Staff is never to gain free advertising on message boards. I made that clear to everyone involved with this site. Please don't assume that there is something shady going on...there's not. I never implied nor did anyone else that their tackle boxes only contain Dave's Lures. I also do not ever encourage anyone to imply that another manufacturer's lures are junk. This is an open forum, and anyone is free to speak their mind about their favorite lures...and they did! Why assume the worst?

Member Posts: 617 Location: Oshkosh, Wisconsin | On second thought, I think I'll hang onto the kaboom shiners I have. Just cause they didn't work for me last year doesn't mean they won't next year. The baits tuned easy and tracked well. Just didn't produce the fish I was hoping they would. Maybe if the forage base in the area I'm fishing changes a bit, the walleye will find them a little more attractive next year. May have been running them a bit too deep too from the info that Dennis posted. And for the record, I'm certain that all of us appreciate the fact that you stop in here from time to time. Knowing that your accessible for tips, help, and whatever else from time to time is important. Edited by Brad B 1/6/2005 4:36 PM

Member Posts: 265 Location: Combined Locks, WI | One other thing I will add is that some of you that have not had the best of luck with a certain lure, may be because the day you were pulling cranks you really should have been pulling harnesses. I found that on some days the cranks just didn't catch a lot of fish. This past summer was by far one of the best crawler harness years there has been on bago. Look at some of the tournies that were won, many top teams pulled harnesses. I had awesome success with cranks on certain days and not always was it Ka-Booms, but by far in my opinion harnesses out produced most of the summer due to the temps and conditions. Ka-Booms were my best crank but not the only I ran. Jon Piette NPAA #294
