As an approximation, the first 75 numbers and the final 75 numbers "fish alone" for a period on each day......I'd take either. Recall order reverses on day two. Also curious how many they took this year.

Number I heard, was 330+. + would be the teams that postmarked on the 1st but didn't get there early. there's a couple teams from MN and such that they figured it would go up a couple of boats.

So much for "300+10" Wonder how big they're going to let this thing get? Anyone know of any other "major" walleye tourney that takes as many entries? Any thoughts on whether there needs to be a hard cap, and how that cap could be implemented if necessary?

xxl, personally I don't have an issue with the size of the tourney even if it would get larger. But Otter Street would like to keep the size in check. I was told if it got much larger than last years (343 boats) that they were going to take returning team preference. meaning that new teams might not get in. This doesn't seem to be an issue this year.

So to answer your question, yes, Otter Street would like to keep it from getting any bigger. Mainly so they can keep the tourney well organized.

Good to know that they're keeping an eye on it. I would also have "organizational" concerns if it got much bigger. Does anyone know of a larger walleye tourney? This thing might have become The Grandaddy of Them All, size wise. Also think that the shotgun start by flight should be reexamined. It can get pretty hairy when the flare goes off...even after the extension of the staging area. Would hate to see a bad accident force the change. As they say.....an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Payout should be increased with more boats, but it is not.

Is that fact? That would explain a willingness to grow the numbers allowed.

I'll agree that the "Shot-Gun" start is a very bad idea.A couple of years back,we actually had a boat run into the back us on take-off.I quess they didn't see the 20' with the 250hp. on it? With the room in the bay, they could very easily let one at a time go.Don't know why they have not done it yet?The last time I fished merc.nationals we left according to numbers. We should bring this up at the meeting.

Received my entry yesterday. I also would like to see the payout increased as they allow more teams in. It would be alot safer if it were a single file start instead of the shotgun they have now.

I heard they had 339 teams and expected a couple more stragglers...

Shotgun start is kinda cool to watch, but it is dangerous. I'd like to see a single file start, but for reasons other than safety...

No one says you have to shot gun with everyone. Last year i gave the shotgunners a 20 sec headstart and kinda just layed low didnt have to worry about zig zagging thru everyone.

Exactly what we were doing, waiting, when we got hit.So that doesn't always work, the right way.
