Fished the Bay on Saturday after the storms went thru in the morning. Decided to try Oconto since Purple Skeeter had been giving good reports about Geanos and wanted to work different waters.
Worked the area around Oconto Shoals with no results, and tried Pensaukee Point. Picked up 1 walleye there. Was really surprised that there was not more boats out - maybe the storms had something to do with that.
Wish I had a better report to offer, but thats fishing. Hope to try again someplace on the Bay next weekend.
Happy fishing to all

Has anyone been out on the Bay lately? I will be home for the weekend from college and would like to get out for some eyes one more time. I had some good results in August out there, but I have never fished it in September. Do the fish change patterns, or will harnesses still work. Thanks guys I appreciate the help! Will post how I do on Monday.

I'll be heading out on the bay tomorrow. Depends on the winds as far as where I'll go. Still got my 16 footer. Three more weeks and my 20 footer should be ready for me. WooHoo! Can't wait. Hoping to try Larson's Reef. I'll report how I did late tomorrow.

BagoWalleyeGuy,

There are still fish in the lower bay(Geano's, UW-GB area) and harnesses are still the ticket.

I fished the islands off Door County Sunday and it was extremely slow, just two catfish. I also talked with four other boats and between all of us two walleyes were caught.

As the water temp cools it will get better. This weekend won't help the water temp, but I'm still going Saturday unless the wind keeps us off the water.

BeFishin, I wish I would have known your report earlier. Went out on Larson's Reef today. East winds my Butt! They were North all day long. Fished two thirds of the reef and all the way to Henderson's Point. Only thing I got was my brains rattled, a Gobie and Dain Brammage from trolling fumes. Next week I'll try a little lower on the bay. Tight Lines.

Going to try up by the islands on Saturday 9/10/05. Hopefully I will have better luck than BeFishin.
Will try both cranks and harnesses. I know the water is still really warm, but with cranks we can cover more water.
Good luck to all the contestants fishing the MWS out of Escanaba.
Happy fishing to all

Jim,

The winds look like a problem but we're going to give it a try on Saturday too.

Where are you going to be launching?

We'll be going out of Peninsula State park, with a red Lund Mr. Pike 18, pulled by a red Avalanche.

Jim,

We decided to cancel based on the weather forecast and the fact that we only had half a day to fish. Hope you get out, I'll be interested just as interested in how the wind was as how the fishing was. I'm hoping I didn't make the wrong call.

My next chance to get out will be the 24th & 25th, I'm trying to make plans to stay up there.

Bow hunting next weekend.

We were concerned about the wind, but it was out of the south so we made the trip. The wind was good in the morning but the bite was slow. We pulled cranks and caught one six pounder and lost one. Also caught a sea gull that attacked a crank that had kicked out because of some weeds. Made for a great fight and was released after we got the lure back. The walleye was released too.
A front came thru late in the morning and the wind shifted to the north, but was still fishable. Then the wind shifted to the east and had to kick up over 20 mph. Made boat control really tough. We called it a day at 2:00pm.
The fish seemed to be close to the bottom, and we did not mark a lot. Not much for balls of bait fish either.
Wish I had a better report for you Befishin - but thats fishing. There was one other boat out there with us and they appeared to be pulling meat. Do not know how they did as we always working opposite sides of the reef.
Happy fishing to all

Jim,

Thanks for the report. It sounds like we didn't miss the hot bite.

If this hot weather holds the bite will go into mid October.

Good Job and nice reports. I have never fished the bay before but would like to learn the system. If you ever need a partner let me know. I live in Neenah and would be willing to split the costs of gas and bait. Scoutmaster

Fished the Bay on Saturday. We decided to work the east side since Purple Skeeter has the lower west side wired :-).
We fished 2 mile and vokes with no luck with walleyes. On 2 mile we marked tons of fish, but could not get any walleyes to the boat. Tried Vokes for one long pass and did not mark the fish like up at 2 mile. Was a few other boats working the both areas and did see a walleye boated but it was really slow. Hopefully someone else was on active fish.
Beautiful day on the Bay.
Not sure where I will try next.

Happy fishing to all

Was on Geanos on Saturday with the rest of the guys, only managed one small 17" eye. Had two other light bites, other than that really slow. Some guy decided to fly over the reef to fish the north side, spooking the fish pretty good. Some people I tell ya! Saw one nice fish caught by a guy alone, other than that it seemed that everyone was moving in search of active fish. We fished until 11 and called her a day. First time I didn't get a fish over 20" out there this year! The calm sunny weather combined with the fishing pressure made it a tough day on the bay.

Fished Larsen's Reef for a bit on Saturday (cranks) and Sunday (harnesses). Only one 28" (Sun) to show for it (pearl blade, purple/white beeds). Also lost one at the boat. Word is the night bite has been good on the reef recently.

Fished Ganos Monday from 9am until 6:30pm... it was a long day with only 1 fish, a 16inch which I released.....

I marked a ton of fish all day but could not get anything to hit..... and the surface weeds made it darn near impossible to fish...

Unless this Thursday and Friday have a better forcast for wind.... I'm putting the boat away untill the last week in October when I'm up to Bay de Noc for 10 straight days of fishing 20 hours a day.....

If anyone gets up there before the end of October, let me know what the hot colors are this year.... It will save me a day sorting it out......

Purple Skeeter,

check out www.sallmarresort.com as they have updates on LBDN and BBDN. Kevin and Kenneth Lee are up front and honest with information. This is a great resource.
