Member Posts: 377 Location: Neenah Wi | It seems to me that when I first started coming to the winnebago site there were more fishing reports. Now its like most don't want to tell the next guy whats going on for fear of giving up some big tournament secret.I may be wrong but thats the impression I'm getting.Thats one of the drawbacks of so many tournaments. The latest fishing info is not being shared.Don't get me wrong here.I just was making an observation.Tournaments are fine if thats what your into.I will usually try to get a report up about general locations, techniques, etc.and hopefully help someone have a more productive day. Some of us still can't get out on the water as much as we would like and the time we do have it helps to have a few tips to get us headed in the right direction.I hope this does'nt come across like I'm a lazy whiner who needs some help. But a few tips sure are nice. Also reading about how others are doing helps me out with how I'm doing. If you get what I mean.I'm not asking for any "secret spots"we all have them just some general info.Does anyoneone else notice the dropoff of reports or is it just me? Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Rick, Your theory holds merit right before a big tournament. I have to admit that I'm just as guilty as the next guy with holding back any information if I think I can cash a check. There are more and more tournament fishermen visiting this site so it makes sense that many of us are a little (okay a lot) tight lipped before a tournament. That being said, I know of no large tournaments that will be happening on the upper lakes soon. So, here is my report from friends. Sorry that I have no personal knowledge/experience from recent days. I've been busy getting ready for guide trips on Southern lakes for the opener. My friends tell me that fishing is starting to pick up on Poygan and in Clark's Bay on Winneconne. Think shallow and troll with crankbaits. Dave's KABOOM Ruff Guys and shad raps have been producing fish. Try the 2 1/4" and 2 3/4" Ruff Guy. Good Luck

Member Posts: 377 Location: Neenah Wi | Dominick I sure hope not.Does'nt realy matter I'll still post and look either way.And as for the bite on Poygan I've had the same results as Dennis posted. But the fish I did get were more towards the river. But I didn't go much past the outer bouy.I'll be giving Bago a shot soon too. Member Posts: 2393 Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Dominick: I hope I did not upset you? It was not my intent. I was just trying to be totally honest. Not all of us fish tournaments every weekend and I love to fish that system for fun when I get a chance. I enjoy reading your reports along with others. I hope the feeling is mutual and I will continue to report when I can. I was just trying to explain the situation in an honest way an I think I represent a few who frequent here. The flip side is that many of us get on here and spill our guts after a tournament and many go out and have fun fishing the patterns we found.

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | I used to post reports but don't as often so because there were so few replies it seemed worthless. For example, I posted an ice fishing report in mid-march, there were nearly 200 views and not one reply. I understand and respect that the tourney guys might not be forthcoming with information but that shouldn't prevent conversation about lake conditions, general tactics etc... I appreciate the reports we do see (thanks Risor and PS). Maybe I'll start posting more often and we'll generate some livelier conversations. I'm heading home right now to grab my boys and my boat so I should have a Menasha area report in the morning. Edited by Viking 5/4/2006 3:12 PM

Member Posts: 1406 | Reports ? what a novel idea. Cool, maybe I can help? Limits of Eyes are still coming out of the river. Fish the flat above a hole for the larger fish and the straightaways for smaller males. Had some luck drop shotting last time out so ya might want to give that a try, If nothing else your bound to have fun with whities. There are still many fish up river. Went over the Winneconne bridge today and no one on it so fishing there has slowed. The cold front had an affect on things as expected. With the opener coming up this weekend the pressure will die off, look for lots of room at the landings and some awesome long awaited peacefull spots to enjoy. Good Luck Tyee Dominick check your pm's or give me a shout 810-2669 Edited by tyee 5/4/2006 6:10 PM

I just posted on another thread before reading this. I spent the AM on Poygan pulling crawlers with only one 9 incher and something that took off for the west end of the lake and broke me off. Pulled cranks for two hrs with nothing. That shallow and gravel post with slips looks interesting as a few yrs ago I was up on rocks in 2 ft and nailed them good. The hatch hasn't started in the cane yet. I think I'll try some shallow rock and gravel tomorrow. Will let ya know. The truth from the "fish-tale".

Member Posts: 59 Location: Appleton, WI | I must agree with Risor. The reports are just not coming in like they used to. I can see why though. Not many want to have a ton of guys on top of them when they are catching fish. You tell a few people about where they are catching fish and the next thing you know....there are boats everywhere. I guess that's just the way it goes. It's a big system and fish can be found all over. I was out for 3 hours Thursday afternoon up river from Hortonville. Casted shad raps right up next to shore. Picked up 2 nice ones in about an hour..... 18" & 19". Also caught one whitie and one northern that went back in to get bigger. They must be tight to the shorelines for some reason. Tried jigs and crawlers for a short period of time with no success. Too bad I had to leave for work. Probably could have filled up for the first time this spring. I haven't had much luck the last month and then lose my patience and quit early and go golfing instead. Looking forward though to start trolling on Poygan and Bago. Actually enjoy slip bobbering on the reefs which should be pretty good by now. Well, don't be bashful to post something....it's a big system with alot of fish to be caught. Just wish I could have more luck. Oh well.....better than working!

Member Posts: 377 Location: Neenah Wi | The kind of reports I was thinking of are just a general how you did kind of report. What tactic, general area i.e.reefs,mud etc.kind of hard to get put on a spot with that kind of info.Like it was said its a big system and plenty of water. Thanks for the reports.I really do like to see and read about how others are doing.Well its off to work.Hope you all have a good weekend and stay out of the yard will ya and go get some fish. We've been doing extremely well this year on the reefs and in shallow water under slips, (hint) think shallow. I don't really know if as many fish went up the river this year. One reason that I am not willing to share much more info than that IS... Several times this year I have been on fish, and people have pulled up as they saw us pulling in fish. Sometimes guys have pulled up and anchored in our spot on the spot, EXACTLY WHERE WE WERE CASTING, in one case less than 30 ft away. Boys, Winnebago isn't DePere, there is plenty of room for everyone... I post regularly on another site and have quit posting because of this. Its a big lake out there. Find your own spot and PLEASE respect others on theirs. I know a guy who hits golf balls at jet skis. Maybe throwing eggs or waterballoons at these stiffs who can't respect others will give them the hint. Just my opinion.

I have to agree with the last posting. What is really happening is that many people don't know anything about finding fish or about pedetor prey relationships. Everybody has forgotten about location+presenttion=fish. They see a bunch of boat and join in. What do think would happen if I got on the VHF radio on any Saturday and said I had caught a few good fish in Clarks Bay. How long before I have a bunch of boats on top of me. I have seen the blood suckers that whine when somebody posts that they had 5 nice walleyes on Horseshoe and the next 4 posting want to know everything short of your blood type. I am sorry, but that is the real world.

Member Posts: 377 Location: Neenah Wi | The previous post is along the line I was thinking of just a general report no specific spot just a general area.Yes some just don't have any respect for some. But that will happen weather you post a report or not don't you agree?I will not intrude on others fish. There are plenty of the same type spots to find your own.If you do see someone catching fish use your noggin and figure out why and how.It doesn't take a rocket scientist to get out a pair of binocs and scope things out FROM A DISTANCE and do the same in another similar spot. And keep moving until you find some fish. And as for the ones that want to know the specifics sometimes I will give out that kind of thing and sometimes not,it depends on the spot I'm fishing.I know I've asked for more details and if I get a response thats great if not thats fine too.I don't mean to offend anyone by asking and I think some just go too far or don't contribute after they get the info they are asking for.Maybe some are just to shy to give a report for fear of someone calling them a liar about their successful day.Belly up and join in on the fun and don't pay any attention to the nonbelievers.See how this post is going? There is alot of knowledge to be had here and some dam good fisherman who are more than willing to help and I appreciate all the help I can get. God knows I need it.LOL Edited by Risor39 5/5/2006 7:33 PM

New User Posts: 1 | Was out the other night in the wind. Hit a few typical humps on the west shore and took home a few eaters. Small jigs with leeches and crawlers, didn't seem to matter. Wow where they fat though. One was only 14.5 inches and I'd bet the ranch it was close to 2 lbs, guts were full of larger minnows around 4 inches... Seemed like there were lots of smaller ones that we let go compared to years past, I'm no genious, but are they typically males? Hoping the wind/weather cooperates and with the opener coming up, some of the pressure is taken away from our spots. Have to agree with the earlier posts. Some guys are just plain rude. Witness this all too much out there. Can't wait for the trolling bite to start. Anyone else got the itch? International Brotherhood Of Triangulists Member #323

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | I was out last night. Was heading out of Cty A launch toward the Garlic reefs when my reliable 1968 Envinrude died in apuff of smoke. I limped back to Cowling bay on the trolling motor pulling cranks with no luck. When I got back to the bay I found some nice gills in the weeds 3'-4' of water. Not many but good size. Leechs and crawlers under slips. Hopefully I can figure out what's wrong and get back on the water soon.

Member Posts: 1195 Location: Orland Park, IL | Was lookin to score, but alas, the scared reever guy came up short. Well, made it to Pipe on Saturday afternoon. After gettin to the trailer in what seemed like an avalanche of lake flies, decided to geeve it a shot. Water wasnt too cooperative. Got ugly from that south wind fast. My lil alum 16 footer was gonna be no match for the lake today. Figured I could launch and make my way down to stockbreedge, but the ride back would be brutal. Columbia park didnt launch. So, drove the reeg to stockbreedge. Water just as bad. Talked to 3 guys, 2 were trolling, one was slip bobberin. 1 small feesh between all of them. Didnt launch. Chewed the fat with the shore feeshin guys and one guy who was plannin to launch his esox 20' tuffy teeller. Wish I had THAT boat. He decided to try sunday. Went back down to Brothertown. Talked to some guys pullin out in a skeeter, trollin, got a smallie, thats it. Feesh the harbor for a few minutes, got a jumbo sheep on a slip bobber. Didnt launch. Stopped off at the Citgo in pipe for the 4 piece cheecken deenner. WOW! Hit the spot. No skunk. Didnt launch. Neighbor hit the upper lakes and did well trolling. Getting back to that earlier thread, yep, its tough to put up info. There are a lot of folks that dont have a clue and but are honest in attempting and askin for info. This is my second season on bago. And being a reever feesherman all my life, this trolling, slip bobberin, snap weightin, boardin theengy is all new. Heck, if I cant verticle jeeg, I am toast. So, bottom line is, it takes time. And we all want to do well. I dont expect the entire presentation, but like skeeter said, the basics will work (NOTE: never knew crawler harnesses should be 1.5 MPH or less. See, learning somethin all the time) PS will trade boat washin, fried cheecken from Citgo Pipe, lake fly removal, or just plain good karma for some teeps on this beeg lake. Dont worry folks, workin on the boat upgrade first.

Hey Mark, If you're looking for a boat upgrade, I got just the boat for you. It's perfect for Winnebago and that river stuff. In fact, you know it can catch fish! By the way, I just dropped the price to $15,300. It is listed in the WF classifieds, if anyone is interested ![]() Dan McGuire
