I'm going out in the morning and am off the next 2 weeks so plan on spending a great deal of time on the water. Going to try Stevens reef first but the as the wind picks up, I'm going to go try your trick.

I have one of those set-ups so will try it. One question is how far from the hook is the weight? I only have those clip on weights. I usually put it 30 clicks from the bait and then let out another 30 clicks before adding the board. Does this sound okay? Sure would be nice to find some larger fish as the west shore reefs have been very hot with those fat 13-16 inchers.

Any help is alway appreciated as I'm trying to learn this hobby more.

Nothing I was doing was producing any fish, so I opened up my harness box and took out a wiggle fin, the new blades I just bought at Bass Pro Shops and tied a harness that Captain Dan showed here on Walleye First that he uses on Saginaw Bay.

I bought some at Midwest Shooter's Supply in Lomira. They had two sizes, that was a while ago, not sure if they still have them.

If your thinking harness applications, go BIG. The smaller ones won't shake (Wiggle) the rigs and crawlers like the big ones do. Couple pictures and results below of the first day I used then last year on July 7th.

Do the wiggle fins affect the running depth of the harness? Do you let out more line to compensate fro the additional restriction?

I'd say they diffinetly do have more drag then say a regular harness with blades. They push water from side to side, versus cut through it. My technique was to simply let the rig with 1 1/2 ounce keels (slow spool down) until it hit bottom, I'd then reel in 3 cranks on the "Gold Cup" reel and set the release on the tether line of my planer board. Nothing scietific. It equaled out to about 43 back over 19 FOW at .08 to 1 MPH on the GPS.

Location: Menasha, WI		I found a tough bite on Sunday too. Unlike Purple Skeeter, I was on the water by 4:30 and only had until 11am to fish. Like Purple Skeeter I went a couple of hours before my first fish. The wicked winds kept my little boat close to home on the NW end, I tried a few different appoaches and finally found a few drifting harnesses along the edge of the reefs at .5-.7 mph. No big eyes but I did catch a few eaters for Father's Day lunch and C&Red a nice sauger.

This morning I worked the same harness presentation that produced yesterday but could only manage a couple of dinks. The wind was stiffer than yesterday but from a different direction so it wasn't as rough as yesterday but I was drifting a lot faster, around 1.0-1.2 mph. As soon as I switched to cranks production increased dramatically. The ticket was a #5 Crawfish Glass Shad Rap 70 feet back in 11'-12' of water. Again nothing huge, but a nice walleye lunch.

Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay.		And if any of you Salmon guys got any Finsel Flies, they seem to be working for me this year so far as well. But that may be an unfair assessment. As anything that swims this year on the Saginaw Bay seems to be working. Heres the Finsel Fly idea. By the way, if you order the squid kit from Cabela's, you automatically get a variation of sizes of the Finsel Flies with it.

Man, I knew somebody would ask me that.

I go into our best sports shop in Linwood near where I keep my charter boat, a place called Franks Great Outdoors. http://Franksgreatoutdoors.com I do their fishing reports as well. They buy blades in bulk from somewhere and sell them 3 to 5 in a pack for a set price with their name on the package. And I mean in all the kinds and colors a man has ever seen. But there is seldom if ever a name brand on these blades. You might go to their On-Line store at their site and find blades and maybe they have a few of them listed.

Location: Combined Locks, WI		I have, along with the boats in my group have been running set ups similar to this for sometime now and doing well just about everywhere we go. We have also tried leeches and Gulp.

There are so many different variations of this crawler rig, you just need to use your imagination and experiment with combinations. Don't be afraid to blow a half day or a whole day without catching fish, just to try things.

Yup.

Live crawlers on all these rigs above. The only rigs I'll run Gulps on occasionally are my Spoon Harnesses Rigs, when I'm running them as sliders above cranks. Otherwise they get the real deal as well when I'm running them by themselves behind keels. The speeds I troll when using spoon sliders and the Gulps (up to 3.0 mph), don't give the walleye much chance to scrutinize the rig or the bait. Pictures below.

Location: Neenah Wi		Good thing I have a lot of storage for the next box of goodies to try.Seems like every time I come on here someone else has another great setup to try.We were out on sat in the wind and only managed to get 2 keepers and a dink.Did not try harness's though.I did not know otter st.could'nt fish poygan and decided to hit winnebago as I thought poygan would be a zoo.I'll be out in the morn with my brother and uncle.

All these spoons are Michigan Stingers, the Scorpion size. You can get them In most sports shops.

Location: Manitowoc WI		ive ran spoon rigs and noticed equal success to conventional crawler rigs. my one question is, whats the purpose of the chain on your spoon rigs..

Purple Skeeter: Those michigan stingers are sharp, but i use almost any lake michigan salmon spoon and they also work.

Capt: Dan have you experiment with running medium sized dodgers on your crawler fly rigs? alot like lake michgan fly dodgers? I would think running those big dodgers would attract fish from a distance and running them high would pull them up to your depth? any opinions?
