Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | This thread is for conditions as YOU have witnessed only. Tell what you know about Ice, Dirty Water, high water and the like. 3-23-07 Today the ice left the shoreline everywhere around Fort Fremont Marine. Our launch has opened and a visual from shore seen little if any ice floating down river. A talk with a few of the boats that stopped had them traveling from the mouth to gills landing with no ice jams to be found. The watar temp today is 35.5 degrees and the current is swirling but not wicked by any means. I will try to post daily.

Member Posts: 1656 | Conditions in the new london area were clear and very fishable as of the evening of 3-22. Keep your eyes peeled since there are still a few "roaming" chunks of ice coming down as they break loose from the "back waters". As my wife described it "the river looks full".

Member Posts: 1656 | Rich, last I was out was Monday evening, water levels are up and the fish should be able to do thier thing. But we could use some more rain now to keep the levels up and help insure a good hatch. Besides, I find the bite better on the wolf when it get's high....I know how much you must be looking forward to some more flooded waters I'll be out again tonight, mostly to help with a raft. Can report some more tomorrow. Edited by Jayman 3/28/2007 3:13 PM

Member Posts: 166 Location: Freedom, WI | Putting the raft in tomorrow afternoon and possibly fishing overnight. Unfortunately the DNR bought the land we used to tie onto for the past 40 years, so we will be in a new spot this year Hopefully we can get the new spot figured out and do alright this year, it should be a good one if we can get some more rain!

Member Posts: 2300 Location: Berlin | Thanks for the info guys. We SHOULD get rain in the next few days but the weatherman told me it rained all day yesterday and we never got a drop. Funny when he said the rain should stop in the early evening and it was not even raining! Lets hope for the best and please keep me posted.

Member Posts: 1656 | Rich, water levels are up, the marshes are "adequate" as of now. I hear ya about the weatherman and the rain. Need more rain. Shaping up to be a nice run. Saw Chris M last night out fishing, he seemed discouraged by the lack of junk floating down the river.

Member Posts: 3899 | I had a report from a very reliable source that he caught two spawned out females early this morning! He's fishing South of New London somewhere. That is early, you think?

Member Posts: 1656 | Shep, I've "heard" of some scattered reports of spawned out girls...but few, there are still fish coming up, with the cool weather the Wolf may become a divided highway in the next week. BTW, Buck Pints and Buck Burgers at The Bridge on thursdays.....nice deal, almost too good of a deal when it comes to pints if you know what I mean

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | As of now the river is maintaining its flow and depth. With the ice out conditions on bago and the slowing of the discharge CFM's it should maintain the water depth in the river. A little rain won't hurt. Alot of fish have made the journey and there are more to come. I think!! The marshes are full and the fish have been using them from Gills landing to Newlondon. It is looking like a great spring at the present time.

Member Posts: 885 | Fished from Fremont to the cut off on Friday, was nice to get out on the river again.... not too many guys fishing that streach of the river...caught a couple dozen small Walleyes, nothing over 14. I even fished my fav night spot for a few hours which will usually produces a couple nice fish after dark.... more small fish. I could only get mud minnows so I'm sure if it was the minnows or my lack of savy river fishing skills. This is shaping up to be a great year on Poygan... bring on the warm weather and rain. Denny, how much are they selling the condo's on the river next to your place... maybe we could get a few Walleyefirsters to chip in for a place. Dominic

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | Dominic, They would make a great meeting place for WF if we could get WF to pop for I.E. (pay in its entirty), even for the lowest cost unit it would work well. That would start at 349,000.00 plus the 2500 yearly maintenance fees and of course applicable taxes and such. And yes, that is U.S. Funds only.....

Member Posts: 1406 | For the PWT guys and any one fishing the river tourneys coming up. The Fish are in the Marshes and last years males are on their way up! New London has become very slow as fish are much farther up river although there are a very few that have spawned out and some are around, night fishing is best now and will probably be for the next 4-6 days. Look for it to get HOT when the next warm spell comes through! Good Luck Tyee

Member Posts: 1195 Location: Orland Park, IL | Maybe I should go fishing. 39th Cold front with rain fished last weekend at MWC. I brought out the rod this weekend, and was gonna pitch a few in bago, but the boy decided he wanted to see the submarine, USS Cobia, in manitowac. It rained anyway. Sees, I gotts the touch.!

Member Posts: 1406 | Hey PS, they are there now (little ones of '05 that is and lots of them!) You asked the question everyone is waiting for the answer on. With the levels the way they are and the temps at about prime, and if you compare that to the past ten years of similar data, I would bet that the PWT will most likely be won on Poygan. Hows that for an answer! They will be done spawning within 10 days and floating back if the levels are maintained. The Sturgeon are already all over the New London area. Good Luck Tyee

Member Posts: 1656 | Shep, we'll have to play thursday by ear, between B-day's and Easter, my fishing time gets precious when the big girls are on their way down. See ya tuesday maybe? Water levels have come up a tad and with the rain, should rise or remain the same. As of saturday evening/sunday morning the wolf appears to be working both up-stream and down-stream for the fish.

Was in the shocking boat Friday amd met Kendall Saturday, the cool weather had many of the fish leaving the marshes around New London and headed up stream. Fish are already showing up around triple C, just south of Shawano. There were lots of fish in the marshes above Shiocton and as of Friday, about 25% of what we were tagging was spawned out and another maybe 25% ready to spawn, the rest were "green". LOTS of males between 17 1/2 and 20 inches. With so many fish going so far up again, and the cool weather creating a situation that should hold the males in the river for awhile, who knows where the "winning fish" will be.
