Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | Out today from 2-4:30. Ran crawlers over the mud for the first 1.5 hours and picked up 3 eyes, 17"-19". Started about a mile and a half east of Jefferson and went with the wind SSE from there. All fish came on a #5 metallic purple Tommy Harris blade, 1/8oz, 50' back, 1.2 mph. Hit a few reefs on the way in but they were dead. Not much traffic out today -- it's nice having the lake to yourself.

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | Was on the water both Saturday and Sunday from 5am-10am. Saturday I did OK: 8 eyes, 2 sauger, 1 whitie, and a bunch of sheep. Started about a mile out from the Neenah Lighthouse and trolled harnesses 2 miles further east in 16.5'-18'. Fish were scattered and most of the fish came from near the bottom. Ran pretty much the same program Sunday, although the SW wind pushed me a little further north. I only got 2 eyes, and a 12" perch. Ran cranks the last 45 minutes w/ no luck.

Member Posts: 40 | I just found out that I was able to get some time off of work, and my son and I will be up there Aug. 3rd through the 10th. If you're on Winneconne or Poygan, and see a red/white Stratos 385XF, stop and say "Hi!" I always like to be able to put a face on the name. I'll also be accepting any and all fishing reports!

Lake Winnebago Fishing Report 8-11-08 A late week cold front delivered some gusty north winds. Water temps and clarity remained similar to last week. Walleye activity remains spotty. There are pockets of very active fish on the western reefs, but these fish are consistently moving on and off the reef complexes, making patterns tough to establish. Drift fishing is again the most productive method to locate active schools over the reef tops. Once found, slip bobbers can target in on the school. Both leeches and crawlers were working well on the ‘eyes this week. Most of the ‘eyes being caught are mixed into the schools of perch. If you can find the perch many times the active walleyes are near. The trolling bite is by far strongest on the northern third of the lake in the mud. Fish are keying in on larger baits, so make sure some #7 or #9 lures are in your mix behind the boards. Flicker shad Hollywood or Reef Runners in blue and chrome seemed to work best. Fish those baits deep behind the board. There have been reports of consistent limits in this area. Perch fishing continues to be solid. Dead sticking slip bobbering and a slow horizontal pop and stop jig presentation all performed equally as well. Strongest perch areas are in the transition zones near Fisherman Road, off of Deadwood Point and the area south of Fraction Island. Reef tops also are producing nice catches of solid size perch. The best reefs reported include the Third Reef, the Outer Bar, Long Point and Kalibus reefs. Crawler chunks worked well, but hellgrammites produced better sized fish. Like the walleyes, moving often to find the active schools was essential. There has been some really good small mouth action on the system the last couple of weeks. Size has been impressive on some of these fish, pushing in the 15-20 inch range. Plastic presentations along rock based terrain was the ticket. Weekly reports available on bago. www.myfishingpartner.com

Member Posts: 617 Location: Oshkosh, Wisconsin | fish tale - Long Point is an island/reef off the SW shore. Saying that you were fishing "off Long Point" is saying you were fishing somewhere on a 5 mile long section of the lake.

Member Posts: 166 Location: Freedom, WI | Its been awhile since we have had a report so I decided to throw one on here. After watching a disappointing first half to the Packer game I decided to hook up the boat and take my frustrations out on some Walleyes, and boy did I do that! Wasn't really expecting to do too much after the cold front, but to my surprise the fish were quite active once you found them. Caught 7 Walleyes total, 5 on one reef and 2 on another. Fished a total of 5 reefs, with the shallower ones holding the fish. Size was nice today, 6 out of the 7 over 16", with a 20.5 and a 24 thrown in. All fish caught on jig and crawler. Water temp was 66 and the clarity was around 1'. Hardly a soul out on the pond today, which was a little surprising to me. Has anyone been fishing the river in Oshkosh yet or even the Wolf? I have never fished the fall bite but plan on it this fall, any pointers? Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | How long will the fish hang around the reefs on Bago? I was looking at my fishing journal from last fall; I was still catching a few into the second week of October but once the water temps dropped below 60, I wasn't doing as well. As of yesterday water temps were still above 66 degrees I've been out a lot lately and have been picking up a few consistently -- unfortunately, nothing as big as that fish of Lance's. With lows in the 30s this week water temps will probably drop soon.

Member Posts: 166 Location: Freedom, WI | The key right now seems to be moving around. If the fish are there they are letting you know right away by biting. These fish have been really aggressive when I find them. I have also noticed that the fish have been shallow! Try reefs that top out at 6' or less and fish the top and then the first drop off of that. The fish on Sunday were on that first drop off the base of the reef. One you get a pattern and stop catching fish on a certain reef, look for a similar reef in the area and try that. That is what has been working for me. All fish have been caught on a jig and half crawler that I am slowly just dragging across the reef. Hope this helps, although it looks as if our weather is going to turn this bite off for good! ![]()

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | Thanks for tip Ritch. I've received the same advice from numerous people over the past few weeks. I've put the advice into practice on a limited basis but my efforts in the weeds haven't been too productive. I probably need to give it more time and try a wider variety of spots and presentations.

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | Went perchin' on Bago on Friday, bounced around a little before we found a few active ones in 15' off the edge of a reef. 1/16th oz jig/crawlers. Fished Poygan today and found a few eyes early. Starting pulling harnesses and picked up a few dinks here and there. Switched to cranks and got a couple of eaters (14", 19") along with a few more dinks -- Baby Walleye SR#5 at 1.5 mph in 9 FOW. Hit the mouth of the Wolf for a while too, nothing but sheeps and a few 12" channel cats.

Member Posts: 538 | I got on Bago for the 1st time this year. Gorgeous day for a sun tan. I was blanked but I saw some guys in the river between Rainbow and the power lines catch a few. It appeared they were pulling flies. Take care, Jim O
