Viking -

Everyone fishes a little different, but I've never had to go heavier than 3/8th on the Wolf.

Thanks Brad. I figured 3/8 would be OK but I'm putting an order in for a bunch of jigs and thought I'd check to see if needed to add some heavier jigs.

Brads right, no matter how you answer, some one else will have other answers. 1/2 oz is a bit much, I have found I use 3/8th for the most part. 1/4 some times but like to feel bottom. 1/4 will blow around in the current when slipping and go around trees. 1/4 will work anchored, sometimes. 1/8 for dragging.
Colors, keep them basic. orange chartruse green black and plain lead.

Round balls work fine. Use fireline, saves you big money when jigging.

Wednesday, went to newlondon, below northport 1/2 mile 10inches.

Guths, no relief in site.

Gills, shore is dark under the rail road bridge. 15inches and water on top

and its still open in fremont from just below teds to the slipknot.

trucks are driving in the river mouth.

Friends, well local folk up river, say hang on to your shorts, with the rain and the snow they say the water will rise fast in new london when the marshes get fresh water as they are working already and they are ready to fuel the system.

Wow, where the river darkened and showed signs of spring, that old frost mizer has resealed. Just got a call from a friend who said he is climbing the walls. From the cieling I agreed. Newlondon guys tell me the current has picked up and is sustained. Means the marshes are working with the longer sun hours and all. When she starts to popp I bet it will be faster than we all expect.

Mentioning that, the count stands at 28 and a wake up. 4 count them 4 weekends or less.

Got everything ready?

Ice breaker 4, march 13-14-15 hosted by Critters sports and Woodeyes bar and grill in winneconne wisconsin. www.wolfrivercountry.com for more info. Dont miss it, the line up is spectacular and it should help to beat down the heebie jeebies.

Have a great Day!!

OK GUYS 28 and a wake up.

Ice breaker 4 13-14-15 and I think this will be a breaker for sure. My usuall wednesday round up went like this.

Northport bridge area getting weak and opened.

Guths very tight

Gills, snow covered

Fremont opened up closed and reopening. I expect my sunday run to show one heck of alot more.

Not a positive report but I did have venison on the grill last eve and man was it good.

whats nice is the lower river will empty before the upper. Usually gets you a week or so of extra fishing.

27 and a wake up.

Today the black ice line from fremont has extended past the rock wall below the new bridge. There is water on top. as the current twists and turns, so will the ice.

Let you know day by day.

9:39 AM March 6th. Sandhill cranes in the amount of 50 range flew past Fort Fremont with about 100 Geese in tow. First signs. The river is rumbling. I was just down there and she has air bubbles passing. Very good signs.

The ice in Oshkosh looked pretty tight this morning and guys were driving across the mouth in trucks. The current side of the river was opening a little in some places but we need rain.

There is 3" of ice that people are falling through in the mouth of the Fox River. People are driving WAY outside of the mouth of the Fox River in Oshkosh. Don't drive or walk near the mouth of the river.

What is the schedule of speakers on Friday and Saturday? I looked on the Critter's website and could only find the names of the speakers, but not topics and times.

Wouldn't you want to thaw the minnow pales. I typically do not like to put minnows in a frozen bucket!!

15 and a wake up.

minnow pales/pails. LOL!! Tell me you did not go out fishing this winter, stop at your local establishment and leave the bucket to freeze in the truck, I have about 17 of them in the drive way today "Unthawing".

River is gray. Fremont has but a trickle open. God its hot out side. Gonna drill holes tuesday. I will let ya know what I find, BUT, after the breaker yesterday my throat was dry, soooooooooo....... I went to Gills to refresh it and talked to my buds and found that there is still 15" up there, however, the waupaca is way up and pushing. I feel we will see some openings and such starting this week. I am off wednesday and plan for depere or poygan, I will find time to drill some hole from northport on down in many locations and let everyone know whats what before the weekend.

Well, from 8 am till 2pm the whole river has changed. open from rocks down and pushing the ice flows down past the new bridge. The rocks down stream of the new bridge have openings as well. When I just walked down by the river, it was sounding like snap crackle and pop cereal. If this weather stays, there could be spots by saturday, 28th for sure. BUT THE WEATHER HAS TO STAY WARM. OK I am starting to shake a bit.

15 days and a wake up to the first of april.

OK I stand corrected. 2 hours 15 minutes from the last time I posted and walked down by the river the open water is getting extended. I can now see the trench that is being carved open from the docks at Fort Fremont. The open trench has extended at least 1 mile so far today. I still will not say open water by saturday, BUT and thats a BIG BUTT, It just might be open enough to fish. I will keep you updated several times a day so Viking gets off my back, LOL J/K, Its Brad who scares me the most.
