Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | The hourly update is this, when I left work last eve I checked 3 locations from Fort Fremont to the rock wall. This morn I did the same and am very sorry to say that things appear today as they did yesterday. I will give a noon hour rundown.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | OK GUYS here is your wednesday run down. New london has boats pushed across bad shorelines and guys fishing on 12 inches of ice. Northport is not even opened up below the bridge yet Ice ranges from 9-12" thick. Guths, Tight Gills, the Waupaca river is wide open and pushed down stream past the launches and the last seawall however, its about 50ft wide only. The other side is thick yet. Fremont is 1/2 to 3/4 ice free to gala resort then it thins down till the river is solid across in front of party dolls. I cannot walk on the ice at Fort Fremont any longer. The rundown for the weekend of 21-22 will be no boating. There is very little open water and if you make waves it could be a mess getting out of the way of sheets of ICE. Get the boat started, batteries charged, oiled and gassed, we have rain coming in and I spect' it will open the river for the 28th-29th.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | Just walked down by the river, God I love my job!! Oh well, just peaked and the ice is crystalized. It is near mush. There should be great movement over the next few days with rain and increased flow. The current is churning. Be ready for the 28th, I am sure that will be the first weekend.

Member Posts: 580 Location: Green Bay, WI | I have finally completed my research and I think I'm ready to make my ice out prediction. I know I'm going out on a limb here. I think Denny is going to call it open on March 26th.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | Befishin, that is a scary prediction. With the shape of the ice this morn, thats 11 days and a wake up left, and the outlook of the ice, shoot, 26th is about right.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | Fridays lunch time report. Fremont is half way open to the rocks, many floating chunks. From rocks up very little open water. From red banks down quite tight. I am sure most is floating bergs but wedged up. Up stream is very wide with shelf ice. Seems like to long stretches have open water, the turns hold it up. There launch is un useable. If you decide to go this weekend be CAREFUL. The bergs will follow you down stream. I would suggest a depere trip or a garage weekend. Next week will be much better. It is nearly impassable.

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | Well boys, she is letting go. There are bergs everywhere today. I suspect that has to do with people braking the shorelines off by there docks. From gills down almost every bend is twisted. by mid week I will bet the river will be safe to boat. 10 and a wake up. I bet i miss the first 2 bites. I have not had a chance to warm up at depere. LOL

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | 9:20 AM March 23rd 2009 ICE OUT!!! The river is ice free from Gills on down. There are many small chunks around and above the railroad bridge there is alot of ice. This rain should melt alot of it. BE CAREFUL, WOT runs are not needed and keep your eyes peeled for logs and debris. The river temp is 32.6 to 33.8 the fish are very lethargic. But there are fish in the river. PS On sunday morning I was out and it took about 2 mins to get the first one. Edited by stacker 3/23/2009 9:24 AM

Member Posts: 2445 Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | FYI UPDATE, a boat just came in and a sheet of ice has wedged its way across the river near the island. The rain should clear it today, but if you are out wednesday keep your eyes open.
