First of all, I'm kicking myself hard for not being able to make it to the Tuffy Get Together. I was planning on it and was excited to be there....but you know what happens sometimes....

Anyway.....

For those 1890 owners who had the chance to run the X190, which by the way looks awesome, how would you compare it to the 1890? Ride? Driveability? Stability? I run a 2007 1890 with a 200 Opti and love it but I do like the lower profile/closer to the water look of the X190. Just curious to see what you all thought of it and how it compared.

Jeff

Well, I have actually sat behind both these boats and ran them. However, I may not be able to give you the best answers compared to guys who actually own the 1890 but I will give you my thoughts on it. The ride was awesome, plain and simple. However, the drive ability, if that is even a word/phrase was phenomenal. You could really drive this boat at slow speeds and keep her on plane. I was really amazed by that. The boat was very stabil throughout acceleration and all the way up to top end. The boat was just so fun to drive. In fact, it was so fun that I took 2 test drives. hehe. It's definitely worth your while to check this boat out, you won't regret it.

I have a 1890, and I drove the 190, lighter feel to it, very stable, cuts the chop like my 1890, handles great, no quirks.

So I would have to say it would not be much different than your 1890 except lower to the water, easier boat control.

Unless you fish Mille Lacs size all the time this would be a sweet ride, and BTW I think it could handle Mille Lacs well

The thing really scoots with a 175.

BTW I drove Worrels 1890, with the mods, it does not bow hop at all.

I think the X190 has a bit more 'sporty' feel to it than the 1890. Fast, stable ride and very easy to drive. I'm going to own one as soon as that is possible. I'm thinking 150, since the 175 puts her in the low 60's. If I can hit 55 or better with a buck & a half, I'm going to be delighted with the speed and fuel economy.

What I liked:

Larger front deck, can lay out long muskie rods
Big rear cockpit, set up for three
Same rear deck size as the 1890
Shorter splashwell
9' Rod locker
Drop to a knee anywhere at the side of the boat and you can work on a fish in the net

It's a Muskie boat. It's a Big water Bass rig. It's a Walleye rig. It's the perfect river rig for the Mississippi, Illinois, and like rivers. I like the boat quite a bit.

I am currently in my second 1890DS, a boat I absolutely love. In between 1890's I ran Steve's 1890 GC, and last weekend I spent a bit of time in the X190. I tell you all this to give you my opinion on the ride.

I love the ride of the 1890DS, it has a lot of boat under you and gives you a great big water feel. The 1890GC, is a bit more sporty, but you still have the reassuring feel beneath you to give you that big water assurance.

The X190 is down right nascarish. It is very fast, very quick out of the water and incredibly easy to drive. It has no qualms about being driven anywhere in the throttle or trim range. It really knives through the waves, I had it in a decent chop, nothing major, but intentionally took on some wakes besides, and loved the way it handled it.

The layout is as close to perfect as anything I have ever seen for my fishing purposes. Close to the water, big front deck, and lots of storage. I guide for muskies, some of it on big water in N Wisconsin terms (Pelican Lake) and will have no hestitation when it comes to the 190.

A minor change was made to the tooling to address an issue a few 1890's were having running certain props under a heavy load at midrange speeds.

My 1890 never bow jumped until I dinged my High 5 up and had three guys, a full tank and a full livewell at speeds between 40 and 45 mph. With a clean prop, this thing is perfect. I never knew how much fun being in a boat could be until I owned this boat. I still miss my first Tuffy, an esox mag, but this thing has been awesome to me. It's for sale and I'll be sad to see her go...until I get my next Tuffy.
