Member Posts: 22 Location: Midland, MI | I never leave the ground without hooking my Hunter Safety System vest up to my life line. That way Im connected from the ground to the treestand and back down. What most people dont know is that 90% of treestand accidents happen while getting into or getting out of a treestand. I honestly think too many people negect thier treestand safety, and it is very sad that it takes a tragedy like this to remind people how important it is. Just think about this PLEASE if you fell from a treestand who would be there to take care of your wife and kids. If you dont wear some sort of full body saftey harness you honestly need to think long and hard about your family. If you think you are too macho, or you think you are ten foot tall and bullet proof like I did when I was younger, think again. Some say that the full body harnesses are too hard to put on or figure. I agree all those straps and buckles Can be hard to figure out especially in the early morning low light conditions. That why I wear and recomend the Hunter Safety System. Im staying safe are You? Member Posts: 150 Location: mille lacs, mn. | My thoughts and sympathy go out to the family and friends of Big Knobs! Big Knobs was an icon on the river! I recall making the maiden MWC tournament trip into the valley and meeting Big Knobs. As all the people were in the valley those pioneering days, Knobs met us with a big welcome. I think the MWC should call the 2008 event the "Big Knobs Memorial". A true pioneer...now in sauger heaven. Steve Fellegy 218-678-3103

Location: Rhinelander | I remember him well from the early MWC days too. Condolences to his friends and family. I take way too many chances with my tree stand hunting. I have a harness in my hunting chest, and never used it last year. I'm getting that thing out today.

Member Posts: 794 Location: Elgin, Illinois | I had several opportunities to fish with Knobby and remember each one fondly. He was one of those people who was "larger than life". One trip was with him in that big red Berkely flat boat, that alone was unforgettable. The entire community and area owe he and Buster (and their entire family, really) a large debt of gratitude for their early efforts to promote the area for Walleye and Sauger fishing. He will be missed and remembered for a long time. My condolences to his entire family. Edited by hgmeyer 10/12/2007 7:47 PM
