Member Posts: 591 Location: in the boat off the east shore somewhere | ok here is my question... is your boat put away for the winter? i took my day off yesterday cleaned the boat changed gear lube. and stuff... i took off my bow mount and electronics and rod holders and took out the bateries ... snapped on the cover ... but is my boat technicaly put away for the winter if i can have it hooked up to the truck and ready to go in less than an hour? im in denial didnt wanna do it..... thaught instead of dumping 300 dollars trailering a hundread or two miles for a day of fishing i would save the money for next years season.... now im having regrets .... the ant and the grasshopper story hits home... im trying to be the ant... always end up the grasshopper... lots of good fishing comming up in the next few weeks.... better get the bow out..

Member Posts: 1656 | I don't winterize my boat, I merely maintain it. We had some awesome day slast year out of the boat at the end of december and beginning of January last year. And this year is looking the same.

| I have never winterized a boat and never had a problem. Many rivers will produce until ice up and there's always Red Wing if the temps aren't too brutal.I keep the batteries charged and make sure all water is drained including the outboards.I condition the fuel as long fuel consuming runs are not common.I live in northern Il. but if I was way up north I suppose I'd do thinks differently.Six weeks is the longest my boat has ever sat without getting splashed. | |||

![]() Member Posts: 2680 Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | My Jet Boat gets put away around the Middle of May when I get my Big boat out. Then gets pressed back into duty around October and often doubles as an ice breaker well into January and beyond until ice fishing starts. Does'nt everybodies? | Simple solution. Change your lower unit oil now. If it is not white, you have no problems and you know you have fresh oil in. Put some type of stabilizer in the gas. Pull your plugs out and shoot some fogging oil in. If you don't go out you are set. If you do decide to go, all you need to do when you get back is fog the engine. I hope this helps as I think you will enjoy the late year bite. I live in Batavia, Il and my boat sits 1 to 2 months tops. I have maintained my engines like this for the last 15 years with no problems. Jim

Member Posts: 1656 | Fogging oil is only neccessary if your boat is going to sit months at a time.
