Member Posts: 2300 Location: Berlin | My good friend Rob took my son and I out to Depere yesterday. We had big plans to get some film and pics of the new "Drop-n-Stay Ultimate". Well, it did not take long before we canned that idea because we all just wanted to fish too much. It turned out to be a very special day that none of us will ever forget. My son Alec is 9 and because I sold my boat a few years ago, he has not gotten too much time on the water lately. His skills were a little rusty in the beginning but by the end, he was keeping up with Rob and I and he was only using one rod! Towards the end of the day, Alec hooked into a monster and we had no idea what it was. After a intense battle with only 6lb test line, this is what surfaced. I have never seen him smile so big and Rob said that about me as well. Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Member Posts: 3899 | Big smile! Nice fish! How was the eye bite? Was out Wednesday afternoon and evening with Jayman and Dave. We got 5, and missed a few more. Jayman wouldn't take me to his A spots, and refused to go where I wanted to fish. We did anchor some, and used the Drop N Stay. Worked like a champ.

Looks to be safe enough for where that picture was taken for something like that. Me and my dad made lots of great memories in that wooden 14 footer we used for years. You only get what seems like a very short time to catalog pictures of you and your boy like the one you posted. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by walleye express 3/21/2008 9:32 AM Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Member Posts: 2300 Location: Berlin | We fished for about 6 hours and caught 30 eyes. Biggest was 24" and most were around 20". 18ft was the ticket for us. Overall is was a below average day for Depere but we obviously made the best of it! Dan, I might take your advice. We just moved to Berlin and now have a house on the Fox River. It is killing us to look at the river and not have a boat. I think that will be fixed in short order!

Member Posts: 36 Location: Shawano, Wi. | What an awesome experience! Quick question: were 1/4 oz. jigs enough weight, or were you up in the 3/8- 1/2 oz range (assuming you were using jigs)? I'm heading up this pm and want to make sure I have the right jigs. Thanks, and congrats to both of you!

Member Posts: 2300 Location: Berlin | We were using 5/16 oz jigs. The current was stable from top to bottom so I could have used 1/8oz jigs in 20 ft of water no problem. Start just below the deep hole and end the pass when it comes up to 16ft. Orange, pink and white were the best olors for us. Good luck!

Member Posts: 56 | Nce fish Alec! That's a great spot to take the kids fishing no matter what time of year it is. Giant cats in the summer and tons of sheephead, the kids have a blast!
