| Lighten the load a bunch or drop down to 17 pitch or probably even 15 pitch if you feel you need to rev it that much higher with a max fishing load. My old boat was a 18.5' Alumacraft deep V with a Johnson 150HP and a 15HP kicker. It ran 43mph with 3 people and gear WOT using a 19 pitch polished stainless three blade at 5300 RPM. The lighter the load the more pitch I could run. If I took off the bow trolling motor, front batteries, and kicker, put on a AL 21 pitch prop and ran alone it would hit 51 mph at 5400 RPM. I just resolved myself that a real fishing machine doesn't need to go extremely fast, just safely put you and your buddies in places to catch fish. My motor was a 1991 model and using that setup for that load it lasted 17 seasons so I doubt whether the lower RPM's hurt it any. The sweet spot for cruising was about 4500 RPM's and about 36 mph. A 19 pitch AL prop was slightly faster than the stainless one. A 20 pitch stainless was faster with a lighter load but was slower to plane with the full load and the 21 AL was a dog with the full load, so you can see, the changes in speed weren't much but the time to plane was more noticeable. Hope this gives you something to compare your setup with. |

| What hole is your motor mounted in? Stainless props usually perform better with the motor a little higher. Bass and Walleye mag have a great article on a 2004 1800 pro v with a Yamaha 150 with a 21 stainless. With a reasonable load, they were getting just a tad over 50mph.
Here is the link to the article: http://www.bwbmag.com/output.cfm?id=943129
