Member Posts: 127 | I HAVE A '08 MERC 150 OPTI-MAX AND A 9.9 KICKER. THE THROTTEL'S ARE SEPERATE. THE KICKER MAINTAINS THE SPEED THAT YOU WANT IF YOUR GOING STRAIGHT (LET'S SAY 2MPH) BUT WHEN IT'S TIME TO TURN THE SPEED VARRIES SO MUCH. COULD IT BE SOMETHING IN THE LINKAGE ? I WOULD THINK AND EXPECT THE SPEED TO STAY THE SAME IF THE THROTTLE HASN'T BEEN TOUCHED. I'M NEW TO THE KICKER AS A TROLLING MOTOR SO I'M OPEN FOR SOME ANSWERS. THANK'S B.JAY'S BROTHER

Member Posts: 39 | I would take and every time you turned the corner throw a drift sock out to slow down. Its not alot of help, but it may work for ya. Hey Bjay, I would have them take a look at it. It sounds like your in the right direction. I would be looking for the linkage to be pulling also. More so turning left or right. Is that what zep and dave have been experiencing.

Member Posts: 127 | jack...... the way it sounds to me is right or left it messes up the speed. i guess zep's been the captain of the ship so i'm waiting to hear what he has to say. i told b.jay's brother to take it to the dealer but they had to head out for tuson az. i hope it gets fixed in time for the lion's tourny. if not i got the big paracute to throw over the side to slow her down. how lucky could we get if we could sain a bunch of shiner's this year? i have a brand new sain. i'm thinking this year to use leeches, small crawler's, fatheads for jigging, and berkly gulp. sure would be nice to get some shinners. i know i'm not paying any big $$$'s for redtails or shinners. it'll be hard enough to pay for gas. gas just jumped to $3.25, what a bitch !!

I have the same problem. I believe it is in the cable that forces the motor to accelerate. move your cables that are on the outboard a little so that they are not touching anything when you do your turn. that is why a tiller handle is better.

New User Posts: 1 | Most kickers with controls do this, the only way to realy cure the problem is to spend the money and buy a Trollmaster. I'm not sure if most of the Mercury do it, but everyone I know with the Yamaha T8 has the same issue.

It's the throttle cable binding (or pulling tight) when you turn. Make sure there is enough slack in the throttle cable so that it has plenty of free play.
