| Hey,
I will be headed up to the area at the end of June to fish for Walleye on Winnebago. We will be launching near the city of Pipe on the southern end of the lake. I have fished the lake back in the late 80's as a young kid but I am sure much has changed since then. We trolled and faired pretty well. My question is, what are some raplas or other lures that are producing well and that I should have in my tackle box? Are there any particular colors?
Also, when trolling how far back are you trolling?

Try shad raps, wally divers, flicker shads, and a host of other deep diving cranks. Color can change daily for what the fish want, but I like to run bright colored ones on sunny days and more natural or dark colored ones on overcast days. I generally see on my electronics where I am marking fish and try to run some at that depth along with staggering others in different zones until I start catching fish, paying attention to the zones that are producing and then eventually running them all at the same or close to the same depth. Pay attention to spots that produce fish and try to mark them and run over them as the fish seem to be there for a reason.

| Thanks for the helpful info. Are you touching the bottom with your lures, or are you just off the bottom? How far back from the boat are you fishing? Do the fish get spooked easily by the outboard? |

| jerdon, when it gets a little closer 2 when u are coming give a shout right here and i and others will tell u whats up.I usally get sick about that that time of year and can only go fishing 2 cure it so i should have some good info 2 give u .  |

| You might consider hiring a guide for a day to cut out some of the searching you may have to do. Typically the fish are in the top half of the water column the month of June and you can get away with #5 and #7 Shad raps in natural colors. Maybe a thunderstick DJ or Kaboom size bait towards the end of June. Run baits between 8-11' of water over 19' and you should catch fish.

| I might consider that, can you recommend anyone? What is a decent day in terms of number of fish to catch? What are some of the average size of fish now? From what I have read on the internet looks like the lake has had bigger fish in the past 10 years due to the size limit being taken out. Looks like it is a pretty healthy Lake. |

| Jerdog, there are a number of guides on the system some may have openings, Who you choose varies greatly. Here are some of the names off the top of my head.

These 2 are located on Winnebago and both have great lakes guide licenses
You would have to check with others about these below as my only real experience is with Mrbluegill and he works very hard for his clients.

17-22" fish are common and although the 23-28" are hard to come by there are some. The system is as healthy as it has ever been and you will enjoy a variety of opportunities. Catching Walleyes, whitebass, Drum, catfish, and a very healthy population of Perch as well.

| If you can remember half of what you did in the late 80's go back and do that. The system is very healthy right now...the only difference between now and then. You'll probably catch more fish. Less Sandpike and more walleyes.
