Member Posts: 51 | In my quest to make my 1760 the ultimate small boat salmon boat....one of the last pieces of the puzzle is to find a way to secure my cooler/fish death box/stationary rod holder from falling over or bouncing onto the nearest person. Imagine a 45" X 18" white monstrosity covered with rod holders and filled with sodas, waters, dead or dying fish, and 40lbs of ice.....it's a lot to keep in one place. My question is IF I figure out a way to bungee cord or ratchet strap the coffin to the front cleat, is the 100lbs of weight + drag from the net and rods with dipseys and flashers pulling the wind...is that going to be enough to pull the front cleat from it's mooring?

Member Posts: 17 | Slamr-I would look under the the bow deck and make sure there are fender washers on the underside of the cleat. I was installing my bow-mount sonar and discovered that my cleat did not have any...It now does..You said you had Tuffy drill some drain holes,,Exactly were did tuffy drill your drain holes??

Slamr, what year is your 1760? Mine is a '99 and I don't understand why you don't mount rod holders to the gunnel cap and use the under floor cooler and livewell.Works for me.

Mine is a '99 and I don't understand why you don't mount rod holders to the gunnel cap and use the under floor cooler and livewell.Works for me. Actually, I have rod holders that are rail mounted for when rods are IN the water. 6 downeasts and 3 holderson downriggers. But we carry 10+ rod when salmon fishing, ranging from 7'6" to 10'. That's a lot of rods bouncing around when driving from the harbor to the fishing grounds for the day. Therefore you need the "rocket launcher" type rod-holders to keep these rods from tangling together and basically becoming a monster mess. So, instead of mounting these rod holders onto the places on the boat that they would fit, and thusly having 10+ very ugly looking rod holders into places that will then be taking up space 95% of the time, I put these on a monster cooler which comes in and out of the boat for when I'm fishing for salmon or other species.
