Subject: Yamaha hpdi motors

I am looking to be a first time owner of a ranger boat (619 or 620).I have been looking at used ones for quite a while. The way I see it , the rangers seem to have better resale value with optimax motors on them, they sell alot faster. I see a number of beautiful rangers with yamaha hpdi motors on them. Can anyone tell me what they think of the yamaha hpdi motors(200hp 2002 to 2004)?.Are there any years you should stay away from?

I became a first time Ranger owner on 8-8-08. Went to Minnesota and picked up a 04 619 with a Yamaha 200 V-Max HPDI. Alot of firsts here for me. Always had Mercury motors. From looking the last two years I do not feel the resale value is much different. Went to Pamp's and talked to the wrenches about the HPDI vs the Optimax and said you could not go wrong with either motor, all issues were solved with both of them in 04 models. We ran Winnebago to Poygan yesterday. I could not be happier with this boat. This motor is quiter than my friends 02 Optimax, we were side by side at idle. Hope this helps and if your in the area could take you for a ride.

Most of the problem you will hear about with the HPDI's are in the 250 & 300 HP motors and have been corrected. I would have no issues with a 200 HPDI!!! I have a 250 HPDI and love it! Another boat you may want to take a look at is the Skeeter ZX or WX models..... Nothing bad to say about Ranger at all just when it came down to bang for buck I thought the Skeeter was a good deal.....

Good luck!
