Should be a great year, lots of red worms all over and clarity is still good. Can't wait to cut in tomorrow and stare into the green liquid!! Let's see your pics when you get the 230#er!!

I was out this morning, we did lose some ice during the warm spell but it is still in great shape, although as Aaaron says, there are a few iffy spots where there were a lot of holes drilled in a small area. All the water has drained off and travel is very smooth.

Member Posts: 1314 Location: Menasha, WI | My six year-old and I checked in at the Payne's Point registration site and got to see quite a few strugeon including a 108 pounder. Went fishing for while after that with little luck. If you missed yours today, good luck tomorrow!

Member Posts: 514 Location: Darboy USA | Well it's been a good season for our group so far and could have been even better. I'm embarrassed to say I got one, but it was only 41" and 11.4#. Not my biggest!! Also on Saturday we had a rookie spearer freeze up on a 70ish# fish and never took the spear off the hook and then he missed a 50" fish around 10:00 am! After that my brother's shack got a 52" 28# fish. Sunday was even better as my brother got his first one, 51" and 18# and then our buddy got a beauty, 72" 96.6# about 20 minutes later. The rookie had another one go through early as well, but was cruising so no chance. So for the year we've gotten 4 fish and seen 7 in 4 shacks. Hopefully the season continues through the week and my brothers get some more chances to sit.

Member Posts: 514 Location: Darboy USA | Not super clear, but would be tough to miss a fish on bottom. North end is really clear, but less fish around up there.

Member Posts: 84 | There are a few fish around the north end including some pigs! Saw some nice walleyes and perch also. Water is unbelievably clear. Could see a quarter taped to our pipes easily in 19 ft of water!

Member Posts: 215 | Sturgeon spearing for the first time brought me beginners luck. Saturday the 14th at 10 20 am I had a fish come through the front of the hole left to right. After she checked out the decoys i was fortunate enough to have the spear fly straight and strike true. 20 minutes later, rope burns on my hands, and some help from a friend, my first speared sturgeon was on the ice. She was 72.6 inches long and 137 pounds. Classified as an F2 they estimate that if she was full of ripe eggs and an F4 she could weigh somewhere around180#. So the first time out of the chute I had a fish of a lifetime. It was great that I speared her with decoys I made.

Member Posts: 744 | Pics or it didn't happen. That's what I love about sturgeon spearing..get a big one at 10:20 on Saturday, and finally sober up enough to post about it on Wednesday night...just kidding Dave...Congrats- that's a pig. I didn't know they rated them the same as they do a tornado. How much damage can you do to a trailer park swinging an F2 by the tail?

Member Posts: 3899 | That picture is misleading. Notice how Dave is standing behind the fish. We don't know how far. And the angle of the sun makes it look even bigger. This is all photo trickery. I think the WRMA should get involved, and dispel this myth of a fish before it gets a head of steam! hehehe Wow, nice fish, Dave. I like that custom sturgeon hoist. You need something that can handle those dinosaurs! Congrats.
