NOT A CHANCE! Although there will be success from those that spawned in Shawano and in the river as the river dropped. Good Luck Tyee

I don't think comparing the river to last year is the best idea -- last year we had extremely high water and no-wake zones all the way down to the mouth. I'm not saying that the current conditions are just fine, only that comparing to last year might not be the best baseline.

It doesn't matter. So many fish make the spawning run that even in terrible conditions it still puts out a great year class, just because of the huge number of spawning fish that make the run. --thats straght from the fish biologist. Last year the water was not even that high (still much higher than this year of course), then it dropped fast right after the spawn. That should have made for an awful hatch, but it turned out to be very successful.

What happens in April matters, but what happens in May, June, and July matters just as much or more. Anyone that tells you the KNOW how this year class is going to be before October is making some assumptions.

Member Posts: 1406 | If the "majority" spawn between April 1 and April 15 in the marshes and they dry up before the end of April, the hatch is not going to be that good! (Thats plain science) The fry need 14-21 days before they can get out. You tell me a 30" drop immediately after the spawn over those 21 days is not going to affect it, I'll tell you to share the stuff your smokin! It is April 29th. There is NO way you can predict right now if there will be a decent number of new walleye's in the lake on October 29th. Will it be the best hatch ever? No, probably not. But not every fish in the system spawns in the wolf river marshes and not every fish that wanted to use the marshes would have dumped her eggs prior to the levels starting to drop.

Good Luck Tyee Good Luck Tyee False. it does not always take 14-21 days. My brother is a fish biologist and said alleye eggs can hatch in as soon as 24 hours and it may only take a couple days (depending on time of year and water tempss). And like mentioned above there are so many fish in the system that spawn that even if only 1% drop their eggs in a place that can survive we will witness a hell of year class again.
