Rich, I heard that you were trolling. Is that true or is the cane beds true? Or did you do both?

Member Posts: 2300 Location: Berlin | Thanks guys, we had a blast. We had 2 fish over 27" which neither of us had ever done on this system in one day before. I will be getting the summary today from Chris Jones and will post it as soon as it arrives. The weather was horrible and we were just hoping to get a limit. Rob's boat had more rods in it then I have ever taken in one day of fishing in my life. We anchored, pitched, trolled harnesses, pulled flies and vertical jigged to get this basket. We were only allowed 8 fish for this event (weigh the biggest 5). We got our 8th fish (27.5"er) at 1:00pm and headed back to the dock. To be honest, we paniced big time when we saw how strong the east wind was in the morning and ran around way to much. It was a total fluke it worked out but I am not complaining. Special thanks to my partner Rob. He has put a LOT of time in on the water finding new spots and trying new techniques. Plus he puts up with me and deserves a lot of credit for that. So thanks a ton bud lets keep this keep this train rolling! As for canes, yes we anchored in some canes first. This gave us time to get a new game plan together and let the sky brighten a bit so we could really see the water clarity. Yes we signed up for the Illinois Division as well as the side pot plus Rob is in Ranger Cup so we came out pretty well. As for trolling and Winnebago, you got to do what you got to do to catch big fish. The reality is there are a TON of big fish in Winnebago and those fish are typically fatter then the upper lakes fish. Plan A for this event was the mud and deep rocks but that did not last long after seeing the wind and temps. Some guys in this event still brought in big weight out there which just goes to show how many big hungry fish are chasing the few shad we have right now. Full Throttle once again ran a great show. I wish there would have been more guys sign up for the Illinois Division but the weather had everyone scared including us. We were held back to the end and saw all the fish come past us after being weighed. They took great care of those fish and the mortality was next to nothing from what I saw. Thanks to Ranger Boats (www.rangerboats.com) and the other sponsors for making this circuit possible. Keep up the great work guys, we anglers appreciate it.
