I've got a bad coil on my 1975 25hp Johnson. Two questions: 1) Do I need to replace both coils if only 1 is bad? 2) Are the Sierra parts decent quality? They are about 1/2 the price of OMC parts.

Yup.... you can just replace the one coil assy. I would take the good (old) one out and cut the plug wire end off a bit and re-thread it back into the coil..... clean the points and get the timing just right.... you'll be back in business in no time.


Sierra parts are fine.

I use Sierra parts for our older motors too. No problems.
