Location: Manitowoc, WI | Either 12 lb Trilene Sensation or 10 lb Trilene XT. They are the same diameter and match up with the Trolling Guide for pulling cranks. It makes no sense to go away from what works best. Some will tell you to try Fireline or Power Pro, but I've lost some big fish due to the lack of stretch in those lines. I recommend you give all of them a try and go with what you like best. |

Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | Viable argument, so I will say that I use 10# XT simply because I believe that if a nick from a zebbie hurts 10# XT it will hurt 14# gamma just the same simply because it is the same diameter. tensile strength is what tested with perfect line. The nicks that you take while fishing is not factored in.
Now, I can say that I have had good luck with the XT 10# in all aspects of my trolling. I will not get technical on its properties, but I will say I have never broke the line while fighting a fish. I even use it to tie my harnesses and have yet had one get "Bit off". |

Sunshine is who got me started on my education (the right way) in the trolling game... He IS the reason I use 10# XT. Now, I have had such great luck following what he (and others) taught me I am in a quandry... I generally buy my new line for the season in Jan/Feb and spool up. Now that Dennis has switched... I am considering the Gamma.
Soooooo... I am thinking about a season of "experimentation"... Thanks for the confusion... just when I thought I knew everything, you proved me wrong...again... LOL |

Location: Elgin, Illinois | On a serious note, most of our trolling on the Mississippi and the Illinois is either lead or threeways... I have learned (the hard way) that trolling with threeways on the rivers requires fireline/powerpro with mono drops and powerpro/fireline leaders (usually 30 lbs) We use light wire trebles that will straighten when snagged. And, if the sinker gets snagged the mono will break. (Used to use pencil weights with a rubber tubing connection to a swivel, but they would "pop" too easy) I run powerpro in temps above freezing (it handles better on the spools, but absorbs water and freezes up) and fireline when below frezing. I run these on very soft glass rods to absob the shock of a fish hitting the lure.
Once in a while I will run downriggers (big crowd days) and there I use mono. So, by Spring I will try the Gamma line on at least four rods. Thanks for the heads up.

If it is better, it will move to the front as the line of choice. It has to just like fireline did for jigging. Fisherman talk, everyone of them.
If it is different, then you have to be looking for a line that is filling a void that the line you are using today does not meet. Meaning, I wish xt would do.....Now I find Gamma and it will fill the need.
I for 1 am not in need of a void filler. XT 10# does what I need it to do. And very well for me. Thus I have never had any reason to "Experiment", I dont know what I would be looking for. Plus, what works is hard to change. |

| Green Bay trolling line...I use 20# fireline with 17-20 # vanish leaders for cranks and 17-20# vanish for harnesses. I believe the rod and the drag tension setting play equally as much, if not more, in the equation of line selection, rod selection, hook set, forgiveness, and landing of a fish. Just 2 cents. |

| Been running 30# PP with 15# Fluro Leader for about 6 years now. I prefer Seagaur Carbon Pro Fluro. I have no problems with losing big fish.  No more than my fellow anglers that lose fish anyway.
Jayman’s words of wisdom are correct if you set up your rods and reels correct the line will not give you problems.
I will say that for guys just starting out your basic 10# XT is probably a good all around choice and is well proven.

| Lurepresentation, I've found that the 20# fireline diameter is near 10# XT. In my experience along with a few others that I have fished with over the years. We have found the dive curves in the bible to match up pretty closely. To take it a step futher, since this discussion is Green Bay related, crawler harnesses are "lead dependent". In other words, they sink and are speed dependent. So the whole trolling bible and depth curve/line diameter argument can be thrown out since everybody's speed will be slightly different.
Bottom line it's preference. I prefer the no stretch qualities of the super line. I went this route because of Lake Winnebago and not Green Bay. White bass swimming on a line is a dead line on 'Bago, with Fireline I don't have this problem. Since I can see the strike and see that fish swimming with the bait. Where mono simply can't do that.
I know, I know, the answer to that is tattle flags, etc. etc. I've fished with plenty of other people's tattle tail flags and yes, they are handy, but they are not fool proof.
My good friend, Brad Bahls can attest to Fireline and 6# walleyes swimming with baits in their mouth on Green bay. Mono, nor a tattle flag would of told you that fish was there. And that was the difference between winning and 2nd place that day. |

| I used the 10 XT for all my trolling. This next year I might try the Fireline or Power Pro program. I like the idea of no stretch and increase in "fish on" detection. It's true the Tattle Tale Flags are not fool proof. There have been some problems with those in the past. Does the super line program wear out the grip pads quicker? |
