| My question is about lights for planner boards and what everyone thinks is the best for night fishing? Ive seen glow sticks and heard of using lighted arrow nocks. What do you all think is the best way to go? Where does one find the glow sticks? Thanks for the help. |

Location: Appleton, WI | I found a 3inch long light stick in bags of 100 off of e-bay. cant remember exact price but I know it was well under $20 including ship & handeling. I just used a rubber band to fasten to the line arm on the board. I tryed them on the flag but got to top heavy. Off shore dose make a really bright LED light that clips to the flag but thay are quite pricey!! |

| Kreg, I have a design for both a portable led light that attaches to the top of the boards or a permenent design that is easily installed in the back of your board. Both are less than $4.00 each and run on AAA batteries. The lights can be seen from a 1/4 mile away and the batteries will last over 125 hours. Send me an e-mail to [email protected] and I'll send you the details. The portable units use a double AAA holder and the same led light and require no wiring. I tested them out last fall with our fishing club at Bay de Noc with fantastic results. On a foggy night, they lite up the night and could easily be seen from a great distance... which comes in handy if you snap a line ant night and need to get your board back.

| I use some 6" long glowsticks and 2 small wireties. The stick goes next to the flag, right over the board. This keeps the tattle flag from going down, and keeps them balanced (OffShore). If I did more night fishing, I'd go with PS's set-up, but for once in a while, the sticks work fine. I got a pack on Ebay, 4 different colors, 32 sticks for less than $15 shipped. |

| Purple Skeeter, or anyone else running something similar-
Do you seal off the battery compartment? How do the AA batts hold up to being submerged?
A friend tried something similar with 9v batteries instead and they started puking out white/green stuff after being in water overnight. I'm assuming in short order that the battery would either explode, and for sure that "stuff" would eat your clothes and boat carpeting.

| The Hawgeyes way is the way to go. U will Never be unhappy with this setup.. Cheap, easy, no maintance.. Me and Capt Jason have been running this setup for well over 5 years... Very simplistic.
requires 2 holes drilled on the top of your board..
bend a 8 inch glow stick in a U shape fitting the ends in the holes..
glow sticks can be purchased for under 10 cents a peace. so guys at most 60 cents a night... never buy a bulb, a battery an led.. lets face it.. electrical stuff isnt great in water..
If u wanna try it out.. the dollar store ussually has some glow sticks u can buy for a little more 6 for 1.00$.. try it out..
Ebay has glow sticks for very cheap.. recommend yellow color.

I finnaly got sick of breaking all the sticks due to poorly made storage tubes.. picked up a few pvc connectors and made my own.. strong.. wont rot... wont get smashed.. a 5$ investment that will last for a life time.."

| Sorry for the delay... I'm working 14 hours a day on finishing my new house... as far as the battery qyestion... no you son't have to seal the aaa batteries, I've had them last for more than a week of use. Dominic |

| I'll get the parts and details together and post how to make the built-in and portable models next week. A few extra comments... I have a couple hundred of these in use.. They are 100% waterproof.. both the battery and the led. They will last 3-4 years with little or no care. there is nothing to break. The batteries last 50-60 hours in extreemly cold weather. You can see them from 1/4 mile away if you lose a board at night in rough water. They cost about $4.00 each. They take about 5 minutes each to construct. Thanks..... Dominic
