| I have a 2008 1760 tuffy with a 08 150 etec. I can only turn 5000 Rpm's. I have a 4 blade cyclone 14"x21". Top speed 50 mph. Dealer says its the right prop, Evinrude tech says its about the best it will do. I have heard the etecs can be a little prop unhappy. My evinrude DI'S in the past, always been able to get them right at 5800 rpm's with top performance. Curious what other guys are getting with the 150 etec and what hole hieght the motors hanging on. 150 opti's chime in too! I'm a little frustrated with the performance right now. Whole shot is incredible and am willing to give up a lot of it to get more top speed.  |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | I had a 2007 Tuffy 1760 DW with a 150 Opti. The best I ever saw with one person, half tank of gas and a moderate load of gear etc was 51.5 mph. I typically got 50-50.5 with a full load. I ran a 19 Tempest on my Opti.

| The cyclone is a horrid prop for freshwater use on walleye and musky boats. No venting and a huge diameter makes it a bear to turn. I tried a 23 cyclone on my X-190 with a 2.6L 2008 E-TEC 200 and it wouldn't even get on plane. You are killing that motor only spinning 5000rpm. Even if the speed doesn't change you need to be spinning 5500-5600rpm for optimum performance which includes best fuel mileage and least oil consumption plus long life for your motor. I'd be looking to run a smaller diameter three blade vented prop like a Solas or a Laser II in 20-21 pitch or a larger diameter 3 blade like a Raker or Tempest Plus in 19-20 pitch. If you want a four blade prop you might be dropping down to 17 pitch to get the rpms up depending on the make. Solas 4 blade props have a little smaller diameter and you might run a little more pitch with them. I ran a custom 19 pitch Solas 4 blade with extra cupping at around 5800 on the 200hp so you'd be definitely lower pitch than that I'm guessing.
What I found out is critical is getting the mounting height right. Probably 3rd hole with your rig I'm guessing. The anticavitation plate has to be out of the water or just even with it at fast planing speeds or you are wasting HP by plowing water.

| Thanks for the info guys. I am cosidering a converson kit to try a merc prop. I will try a three blade and if I lose hole shot I'm fine with that. The thing's wicked out of the hole and will throw passengers right out of the seats if thier not facing straight forward when you blast off  Any one else out there got any simiular set ups |

| Just a FYI I switched from a Rev 4 (4 blade) to a Tempest actually improved my hole shot same pitch, I would try a Tempest, a more performance based prop |

| I have same boat but with a 150 Opti. boat came with a 17" rev 4. not great top speed, 45-47 GPS, but hole shot is awesome. and it is running 5800+ rpm's. will be ordering a 19" tempest soon. As far as a etec 150 goes, an evinrude dealer should let you try out props. if not, find another dealer. whatever you come up with you are about 750 rpms short of letting the etec run free. do they make a 19" raker? if so, that would be a great place to start. |

| The Merc props are very good, excellent steel in them from what my prop guy told me. A conversion kit would be fine. I think #835265Q02 is the torque flo hub number I ran, but better check to make sure.
You need to check the lower unit gear ratios too before you buy the same prop an Opti 150 is running. I don't know about the 150's but on the 200's the Opti's have a 1.72 vs the E-TEC's 1.85 ratio, so the Opti will want to run a little lower pitch than the E-TEC. If a 19 is perfect for an Opti you will probably need a 20 for the E-TEC to get into the sweet spot of the rpm range. If the 19 is a little to much for the Opti's then it will be good for you.
(Now I'm running a 23 Tempest at 5850 with a heavy load, same prop as the Opti's are but it gives me too many rpms with my E-TEC 200HO, whereas on the Opti's they are running about 200 rpm less if I remember correctly, so you can see the difference in the gear ratios)

| I bet the 19 Temptes will get you where you want to be. As far as the dealers loaning props, I've checked with several dealers in my area and the don't carry many props, either Merc or BRP. They all told me the same thing, to much money just sitting on the shelve. BRP's borrow a prop program is'nt panning out at all in my area, dealers say they have to pay for the props that they will loan out, but that is just what I what told dont no if thats the truth. |

| Many Merc dealers have a Demo prop program. Fort Fremont Marine has such a program.
You need to fix this issue. 5000 is way to low for max RPM's. Where are you located? |

| well mr guest lot of good info here. first things first, you are lacking around 800 RPM's. that cyclone has to go. I would put it on ebay right away and say goodbye to it. or save it for a spare. MY 2 cents here would be go with BRP props first. That way your not messing with hub kits and everything. easier swaps with hardware etc. I had a small BRP dealer near me who said I could try out any prop I wanted, just had a restocking fee. I am not up to speed on smaller etec props sorry. get some beer and hit the net. Sometimes guys have props laying around gathering dust. check ebay and BBC props for sale page.
Finding the right prop is pricey, shipping, driving etc. but when you do, that last 800 rpm's on that etec is gonna be like lighting off miss budweiser...
FYI on my PM's is a guy who will sell me a tempest at a great deal... I may call him tonight when I get home... I feel the need, the need for speed... |

| The Merc hub kit isn't that expensive, for what you are getting. And you are getting access to the best and biggest selection available from one manufacturer. Lots od Merc delaers out there with the demo program. Take advantage of it, and you'll get the correct prop. My guess is a 19 or 21 Lazer II with the proper venting, would be a pretty good prop for that boat. |

| I'm running an older 1760sc/OMC combo and have talked at length with John at DAH Pro props in Burlington,Wi. and found everything he's said to be so.According to John, the best prop for your hull is an old Raker.He says the metal in the Raker 2 is inferior.However,the hub design of the old Raker will not withstand the hotter exhaust of the leaner running E-tec.He has found solution and can customize a prop at a reasonable price.Finding a Raker may be a problem but I see used props on craigslist and E-bay.A used prop and customizing will cost less then a new prop.He may have one in stock. The next best option and probably easier, is to go with the Tempest. I've tried numerous props but none perform like a Raker.The bow lift is incredible and it will stay hooked up under any condition. |

| Stacker wasn't there. though the people were very nice. 19" tempest and hardware on the way. nice to be able to deal with a tuffy dealer.
It has been quite a while before I heard DAH props mentioned. I noticed they are located right in the middle of tuffy country. they should be loaded with info... I agree, raker is a great choice. |
