Member Posts: 3899 | I thought the title was going to be a lead in to a joke about lawyers. They say these things are pretty tastey when broiled, and served with butter like lobster. Anybody ever met they?

I think the lawyers were getting ready to spawn on the reefs? Anyways, we kept a few and after they were good and dead and stiff, we skinned them and cubed up the meat and did boile them. They were great!! I would definitely eat them again during ice season, not sure if I would any other time of year though. Still can't get myself to try the goats though! ha!

Member Posts: 181 Location: Manawa Wiscowsin | Compared to some of the fish I've tasted that came from the grocery store, I'll take lawyers or sheepshead any day that eyes or perch aren't available. Lawyers are the only fresh water member of the cod family. They are great if you cube the fillet and boil it in salt water until done. They can then be served with drawn butter like lobster or chilled and served with shrimp sauce. Sheepshead aren't bad tasting either. Fried up they make a good meal when caught out of cool / cold water. Boiled and chilled like lawyer they are great with shrimp sauce. The Twin City Rod and Gun Club had a sheepshead fry once a year when I lived in Menasha. It was always a big hit. I moved away 20 years ago and have no idea if they still do.
